Speech Defects & Serial Killers

Speech Defects & Serial Killers

I was watching some FBI documentary files and one of the things that the FBI said seems to fit a serial killer is that:

1. They seem like a regular 'nice' guy
2. They usually have a speech defect like stuttering or lisp
3. They had a habit of arson or control from an early age

Do you know people who fit that description?

I think it's an absolute generalization. Many people fit that description and they are NOT serial killers. I really don't have much faith in the FBI and some of the things they say when they make statements like that. I agree that there are "signs" from early age but I won't go as far as to say these are the signs.

Rather off topic, but...
This reminds me of the FBI when they said that because the husband of Sarah Widmer was the only person in the house, then he killed her. Made no sense whatsoever.

Well this was meant to be about a specific case where the killer was hurting his victims in a certain way. You can see the case of Robert Hansen as an example. My point in mentioning it is that someone that may seem weak and vulnerable usually has an oddity that if you research will lead to other episodes, for instance they like to torture animals when they were young. The Craiglist killer did little things to start. He may have hid a gun in his Gray's Anatamoy book to see if anyone could find it. When he saw no one did he would 'reward' his accomplishment and go on to more daring things.

It seems that a lot of these serial killers act out many fantasies that revolve around power and control or in other words things they cannot do for themselves. For example a man that stutters will not likely have chance of picking up the 'pretty' girls so he resorts to forcing them.

Do you know anyone who is a nice guy, with a lisp or stutters? A lot of guys out there are like this. People will look at the first two points and ignore the most important point. Arson, or killing/maiming animals...

Some people can be quite gullible and if you feed into them that there is a problem. They'll go try and find it even if its not there.

I agree with Jchampers, having a speech delay doesn't make someone a serial killer. I think when the media releases information like that it causes people to discriminate against others.

Serial killers come from dysfunctional families and they're known pet torturers.
