I heard about the petition I didn't know Mormons weren't allowed to make petitions. How come? I don't know much about the mormon church but I thought they were pretty open minded.

Being a Mormon, I didn't know that Mormons weren't allowed to make petitions either, but I understand the thinking. If you have a prophet of God, it would be extremely presumptuous to sign a petition telling a prophet of God what to do.

Exactly. People need to understand that we cannot and should not counsel the Lord. He is PERFECT and we are not and IF any changes are needed he will go through the proper channels which in this case is President Thomas S. Monson.

I mean no disrespect but why mormon women cannot pray in what you call "General conference"? What's the reason? Is it a prohibition? Again I mean no disrespect towards your religion but I think women around the world fought so much and for so long to bring equality in gender issues that it is just so surprising that we still seeing things like this happening in 2013. What is the mormon church doing to bring equality withinthe religion? And what is the mormon pope saying about this issue?

Excuse me? On the one hand you say that you mean no disrespect, and then you turn around and call the prophet of God a "Pope"?

Humanistic ideas of equality are not necessarily accepted by by Christians. Mormons were the first to give women the vote, but search the Bible, and see if God ever gave the Priesthood to women. He never did.

If you claim that men and women are equal, then the burden is on you to explain what you mean by that. In what way are men and women equal? Are they equal in height? No, most men are taller than most women. There are exceptions, of course, but generally speaking, most men are taller than most women. Are they equal in weight? No, most men weigh more than most women. Are they equal in strength? No, most men are stronger than most women. Are they equal in longevity? No, most women outlive most men. Are they equal in intelligence? I don't know of any accurate way to measure intelligence, but generally speaking men are better at things like math, and visual spatial relationships, while most women are better at reading, writing, and communication skills. They are not equal--they are different. It's like comparing apples to oranges. They are different. So, if you insist that men and women are equal, it puts the burden on you to explain in what way they are equal. How are they equal. Men and women are not equal--they are different--and that is why men hold the priesthood and women do not, and as long as that is the case, men and women will never be "Equal" in the eyes of the world. What you have to understand is that Mormons don't really care what what the world thinks.

Wow I'm sorry okay? I didn't know the exact term for the top leader of your church Tragula I didn't mean any disrespect when I called your prophet a Pope. Geez is this how mormons generally react when someone who isn't a member makes a mistake? lipsrsealed.gif

They're are equal or should be equal in rights. Men aren't better than women or women better than men therefore they should be allowed to do the same things regardless of their gender.

Why Sisters Don't Offer Prayers In Conference?

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, LDS sisters WILL pray in General Conference on April:

international QUOTE
The Salt Lake Tribune has learned that LDS women are scheduled, as of now, to offer invocations or benedictions at next month's General Conference - an apparent first in the faith's 183-year history.

Church spokesman Scott Trotter would not confirm or deny the female prayers, saying only that "Decisions on speakers and prayers at General Conference were made many weeks ago."

Trotter made a similar statement about the schedule in January after a group of Mormons launched an effort called "Let Women Pray in General Conference." The activists urged the faithful to write letters to six high-ranking LDS leaders, including apostle Jeffrey R. Holland and three women who oversee church auxiliaries.

The drive generated about 1,800 letters from 300 participants, said Analisa Estrada, a Salt Lake City graphic designer and one of the organizers. "The letters were beautiful and heartfelt." Source 2

Tragula, Sleuth didn't mean anything wrong with the term. She isn't a member obviously and this line wasn't helpful.

Going back to the topic, we're just a week away from general conference let's see if the rumors are true and a sister will pray for once.
