That sounds like an excellent plan. Of course, the Palestinian Arabs aren't going to allow that without some major violence. IMO. And, of course, Europe is going to moan a lot about how inhumane the Israelis are for trying to protect themselves.

The Arab League and other Muslim countries have condemned an Israeli raid on a West Bank jail that netted six Palestinian militants, blaming both Britain and the U.S. for allowing it to happen.

Rice: U.S. might back unilateral withdrawal from West Bank
By The Associated Press
United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Thursday that Washington did not rule out support for any unilateral territorial choices that Israel may make.
Rice was speaking in Berlin, a day after Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas swore in the new Hamas-led government and two days after the Kadima party's electoral success made Olmert almost certain to be the next Israeli prime minister.

What really holds Israel back from just going into Palestine and taking over completely? Is it the USA, is it the World reaction? Is it the Arab World? I doubt it is the Arab World since they seem ready to fight them if necessary, but I feel the USA / UK as well as secondary world input might be stalling them. Given that I am sure they would enter and claim everything for themselves.
Now the 'world' is basically not supplying hamas with money so they are starting to soften, but will they get to the point of candle wax?

Since taking power last week, leaders of the Islamic militant group have increasingly softened their statements, but have stopped short of meeting the international community's demands. Sending such a mixed message, Palestinian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Zahar wrote to United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Tuesday that the new Hamas government believes its struggle against Israel's occupation is just, but that it wants to live side-by-side and in peace with its Israeli neighbors. Zahar later denied using the term "two-state solution." Ref. https://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/702826.html |
This form of aggression doesn't help anyone. Why on earth would they target the compound of Abbas, 100m from his office? He is the most moderate voice on the Palestinian side.
Nighthawk, which missile attacks did Hamas recently sanction?
It appears both sides are prepared to use terrorism to advance their cause. I understand Kadima was being aggressive to win support for the Israeli election, but now they have gained power and look likely to form a left-centre coalition, hopefully we can see some sensible policy that attempts to engage the Palestinians instead of isolate them. Hamas must also step to the plate and prove they are driven by peace.
Meanwhile, what Israel is doing with road blocks and Israel-only roads in the Jordan Valley is pathetic. What is the point of allowing Palestine autonomy over land when Israel has created two borders that run straight through the middle. They have no intention of giving up this land.
Here is an interesting story which reveals that there are over 300 Israeli road blocks in the West Bank today.
