Palestine Statehood Who Is Right? Should Palestine be its own soverign nation state? Why is the USA attempt to block this from happening? Is Israel using an apartheid system much like South Africa did where people are segregated into undesirable areas and become unable to access the basic necessities of life? Does Israel have a point that they have major security challenges against those trying to harm them? How can this be resolved or will it ever? Will there be a Palestine state?

Tens of Thousands Demonstrate Globally Against Israeli Actions, Jewish Women Among Those Leading Protests

Tens of thousands of people took to streets over the weekend in cities across the globe to demonstrate against Israel's assault on Gaza. Some of the protests have been organized by Jewish groups who are speaking out against Israel's actions. We speak with two Jewish women for peace: Dorothy Zellner, one of fifteen Jews who have signed a call for a protest in front of the Israeli consulate in New York, and Judy Rebick, who organized a sit-in comprised of Jewish Canadian women at the Israeli consulate in Toronto.

Will the World forgive the ones (War Crimes) they are now committing?

Since when has striking targets in an enemy controlled zone to kill combatants (Hamas hiding amongst the civilians), a War crime.

If this were the case, then America and the allies should have been prosecuted for War crimes when fighting the Nazi's in World War 2 Germany when they firebombed Dresden.

The Israelis are much more careful in there bombing of Gaza then we were in WW2, and as justified.

Much has been stated about Israel not allowing foreign aid in to the Civilians in Gaza. Now that it is being let in Hamas has raided the Aid shipments and are selling them.

Hamas on Monday raided some 100 aid trucks that Israel had allowed into Gaza, stole their contents and sold them to the highest bidders.

Ah, but it is Israel, according to some, that is perpetrating the War Crimes. The Palestinians chose Hamas to be their representatives, and are now facing the consequences of electing Terrorists to be their mouthpiece. This is War that was declared by the Palestinians and Hamas and Israel has just decided not to take it anymore.

Pro-Israel Supporters Praise Gaza Assault as Justified Despite Mounting Civilian Death Toll

On Sunday, thousands turned out in New York for a rally to support the attack on Gaza. Speakers included New York Senator Chuck Schumer and Governor David Paterson. The journalist Max Blumenthal, also a Jewish American, spoke to some of the demonstrators. We play highlights.

Gaza Suffers Most Intense Bombardment of 18-Day Israeli Assault

Residents of Gaza suffered the most intense bombardment of the eighteen-day war last night as Israeli warplanes carried out strikes throughout the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian death toll is now at least 930. More than 4,000 Palestinians have been injured. Thirteen Israelis have died over the past eighteen days. We speak with journalist Zaki Chehab, author of Inside Hamas: The Untold Story of the Militant Islamic Movement.

Can you give me a example of when removing the cause of terrorism has stopped further terrorism. Your comment made me think and I have tried to go back and find a good example of this, but haven't been able. Perhaps I am looking at my searches in the wrong way.

QUOTE
Hamas was born out of terrorism and you cannot defeat terrorists by killing them. You can only defeat terrorism by removing the cause of it.

Now, I have been easily able to go back in history and find examples of where terrorism unchecked emboldened the terrorist to go to further levels (Nazi Germany, Khmer Rouge, etc...). These organizations terrorized and as they got concessions terrorized further, until they overstretched their bounds and subsequently failed and were eradicated (typically by being killed or exiled). You can probably throw in the Crusades and Inquisition into this mix as well. They didn't stop because everyone converted or all saw the light. I have seen terrorist organizations fade away, but that has usually been when they are close to capture (The Weathermen, Black Panthers, etc...). In those cases, the cause of terrorism was not removed, but the threat of incarceration was serious enough and a few of the leaders were killed that they dropped out of sight and the terrorism they involved dropped as well.

You might be able to argue the IRA, but the IRA really stopped or slowed down terrorism well before the Good Friday Agreement and their cause was truly never met, they compromised. I don't see any real compromise yet from either side of this issue with regards to Israel and Palestine. Would the IRA have stopped if England had returned the north back to the Republic? I think it would have certainly, but the bargaining partner wasn't going to do this, as it isn't in their make-up to capitulate. Israel is not going to turn Jerusalem over to the UN and is not going to give it all or the specific parts that it wants to Palestine, so it seems until one side is willing to give up on its aspirations, the killing will continue. Actually, I think the IRA is probably the best example, that is closest to mimicking this scenario as the IRA was not in power in N. Ireland and the dispute is mostly over land.

Honestly, I don't believe that either side in this fight will be satisfied with nothing less than total control of Jerusalem and both sides want more than what was granted in '47, because in that case Jerusalem would be a UN World City. It is currently Israel's Capital City, they aren't going to give it all up. The deals that both Bush and Clinton put together are about as good as it is going to get at this time for both sides and they still couldn't agree to do it. The Bush Plan was basically a faithful partner building process with concessions on each side to be expected along the way. It has failed because there really is no trust from either side with good reasons for each. The Clinton Plan (Camp David Summit) went even further to start putting boundaries on the map, but they couldn't agree on Jerusalem and Temple Mount. I look at the Clinton Plan as the best (because it spec'd out boundaries) and it failed. They just could agree on boundaries and that is the crux of it all.

Personally, much like the IRA had to agree to let the North go and accept "power sharing", the Palestinians are going to have to agree to let some things go to get peace from the more powerful Israelis. The Israelis are going to have to concede things as well to stop this cycle of war, so they can look forward toward prosperity and security in the region.I Honestly, I think that a non-continguous border for either side is a huge mistake and a reason to spend even more than necessary on a military that would eventually get used for some scuffle. No one likes to have to ask someone else for permission to travel around their own country. That is too much control for another country to have over a country if they are both at peace.

Looking purely at this in border way, I would cede Gaza over to Israel. Israel cedes over a equal square footage of land from the southern tip of Lake Tiberias to join the Golan Heights and the West Bank. Another small strip of land in this area is annexed to Palestine (keeping it continguous) and Israel builds a Airport for Palestine. All homes that are in the annexed areas are left and not destroyed by exiting populous. All people displaced are re-settled at each governments expense. East Jerusalem is a UN World City placed under Palestinian custodianship. In this event, Palestine can choose to deal with Israel or Lebanon for goods that are shipped over the ocean.

Obama's Pro-Israel Congressional Welcome
By Rami G. Khouri

Suppose israel withdraws from Gaza (As they have done in the past), and they keep to the Cease fire agreement. If Hamas then fires rockets into Israel again or sends in a Suicide Bomber, are they justified in resuming hostilities, or are they required to allow the attacks to continue unanswered because of the supposed ineffectiveness of these attacks?

Leading Israeli Scholar Avi Shlaim: Israel Committing "State Terror" in Gaza Attack, Preventing Peace

The assault on Gaza is entering its nineteenth day, with no end in sight. Israel continues its intense bombardment of the territory as Israeli troops edge closer to the heart of Gaza City. Nearly 1,000 Palestinians have been killed, more than 4,400 injured, many of them women and children. Thirteen Israelis have died over the same period, ten of them soldiers. We speak with Oxford professor Avi Shlaim. He served in the Israeli army in the mid-1960s and is widely regarded as one of the world's leading authorities on the Israeli-Arab conflict.

White Phosphorous and Dense Inert Metal Explosives: Is Israel Using Banned and Experimental Munitions in Gaza?

Israel is coming under increasing criticism for its possible use of banned and experimental munitions. Human Rights Watch has accused Israel of illegally firing white phosphorous, which causes horrific burns if it comes in contact with the skin, over crowded refugee camps in Gaza. Medics and human rights groups are also reporting that they are seeing injuries distinctive of another controversial weapon, Dense Inert Metal Explosive, known as DIME, that was designed by the US Air Force in 2006. Those struck by the weapon who survive suffer severe mutilations and internal injuries. We go to the Gaza border to speak with Marc Garlasco of Human Rights Watch and to Norway to speak with Dr. Mads Gilbert, who just returned from the Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. He says Gaza is "truly a scene from Dante's Inferno."
