Terror alert raised in Israel; missile dome operational
Violence continued after the terrorist attacks that killed 8 Israelis and police have now raised the alert level in Jerusalem. Sderot, Ashkelon and Beersheba saw rockets rain down on them throughout the weekend, putting Jerusalem on a Level 3 alert, just one below the highest alert level. "We want a Jew Free area"
The Palestinian President is pushing aggressively for a U.N. Vote on statehood and is attempting to do so through the Security Council rather than the General Assembly. When asked to describe the diversity of the theoretical state, an official responded by saying they wanted a Jew Free area and that 'they must be separated' early on. Why does anyone support the Palestinian state again? Glenn gives context, history and why this sentiment matters on radio today. Ref. Source 3
Palestinian officials say Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas plans to tell President Barack Obama today that he will deliver a letter to the U.N. Security Council seeking statehood but will not expect the United Nations to act immediately, potentially averting a showdown on Palestinian statehood at the U.N. On Friday.
The letter, which Abbas would deliver sometime before he leaves the U.S. On Friday, would continue to put pressure on Obama, Israel and the U.N. To seek resolution on Palestinian statehood. Ref. CNN
Peace loving Palestinians throw rocks at car; hit baby in face
The Blaze has the video of a sweet little infant girl who was cut up after Palestinians hurled rocks at the car of an Israeli family. This type of random hate is not acceptable under any circumstances, but the fact that a little baby was in the car didn't seem to deter these peace loving Palestinians from smashing the windows out with rocks. Thankfully the girl is ok - but the images of the injuries are shocking. Ref. Source 6
Deal reached to free captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, Israel and Hamas say.
Militants took Shalit after tunneling into Israel and attacking an Israeli army outpost, killing two soldiers.
Since then, he has been held incommunicado by Hamas, the movement that controls the Palestinian territory of Gaza. There have been ongoing attempts to broker a deal to release Shalit, and they have failed. Ref. CNN
Late Monday, the Israeli Supreme Court rejected appeals against the release of prisoners in exchange for the captured Israeli Army sergeant.
Shalit has been held incommunicado by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, which controls Gaza, since his seizure in a raid in 2006. He was 19 years old.
The Israeli public overwhelmingly supports the swap for Shalit, but is equally split on whether "the release of terrorists" will harm Israeli security.
