I think that there has been enough bad blood now over the last 60 plus years between the two that there really is no chance of peace and even if it were signed and agreed to, it would only be very temporary and likely negative for the Israelis. The cease-fires are worth agreeing to - which is what this will end up in again. Each time Hamas has done anything like this (And they have now done it at least twice before), they have met with swift and unbalanced responses from Israel. They had to know this was coming, so honestly, they are martyring their own people.
If Palestine put down its weapons, they would have peace. If Israel put down its weapons, there would be no more Israel. I am not even jewish and can see that this saying is true. Israel has had long and good standing peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan. I am not sure but they were working on one with Syria, but suspect this one fell through.
From what I see its like how it was in South Africa, the Israelis have the best and the Palestinians are put in the ghetto places and they are not allowed out of it. There won't be peace cause no one wants to live like that. There is lots of racism there and I'm NOT a Jew hater just stating how I see it.
I can see what you are saying as the current situation seems similar. I would emplore you to dig back a bit further to understand how it got this way. That is actually quite different.

If anyone looks at the boundaries that were prescribed by the Mandate for Palestine, you can instantly see the problems that lay ahead. Additionally, both religions claim Jerusalem - that by itself was going to be a problem and not a small one.
I am not sure how it would work (Still thinking about that), but one idea I had was that the UN should basically govern the entire country. They created this mess, they should own it. So in effect, it if happened, what is known as Israel would be a World Heritage Country.
I understand that but they aren't under that mandate. Its 2014 now and they can make their own rules but since everyone wants the same pie rather than bake their own then its not going to work out. This is why religion does more bad than good something, no disrespect to anyone.
Right, the Mandate expired as it was supposed to in 1947. It was concluded with a UN approved Partition Plan. I was just pointing out how this was different than the appartied you were suggesting. Right after the Partition Plan was accepted by the Israelis and Israel was acknowledged by the UN and rejected by the Palestinians, the Palestinians, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Iraq declared war on Israel. Israel would have fallen for sure had the UN not saved it, which would have basically made your first post come true...just not mutual destruction.
The thing I don't really get is how we fight modern wars of which this would really be a good first example. If you wage war on someone and you lose, apparently, we should feel sorry for you and give you back everything you lose. The US gave Japan back to themselves...had Japan won...would they have given the US back all their lost territories? If so, what is the purpose of war? All the instigators of the previous world wars were eventually given their countries back... I just can't imagine Hitler giving back all he gained because he was supposed to feel bad for those he conquered.
The people there aren't going to ever like each other because their religion teaches them not to. Its also in the blood so to speak. If you see your family killed and you know the other side did it then nothing will change how you feel about them. Of course no one will admit that but that is how it is. Israel did give back land they took during the war to get peace but you'd think by now that both sides know that isn't going to work. I think the only thing stopping Israel from just bulldozing the whole of Palestine is the international outcry and the number of terrorists that will blow themselves up in Israel. People aren't as sympathetic as they used to be about Israel like Presbyterian Church Vs Israel.
