Actually, it is a good descriptive term. Â It is an 'ism' based on some of the ideas of Islam.
As far as 'Mormon Fundamentalists' - I have absolutely no problem with the term. Â Especially since the church leaders frequently admonish the members to not identify ourselves as 'Mormons'.
Mormonism is more than a doctrine. Â It is a culture. Â Fundamentalists base their doctrine on a few doctrines that WERE fundamental to the faith and culture of the mid-1800's. Â Just as the Islamists base their ideology on a few doctrines that actually ARE fundamental to Islam.
If the 'normal' Muslims don't like the way they are portrayed, because of the radicals, maybe they should put forth a little bit of effort to disavow those radicals.
Very, very few of them do. Â I have only heard one or two statements by Muslims against the actions of 9/11. Â I have never heard one against the horrific actions of Palestinian Arabs.
If more would stand up and proclaim that the Islamists didn't represent Islam, then perhaps it would do some good. It is almost entirely Christians who make these claims for the Muslims. Of course, if Muslims make too much of a fuss about the Islamists, they get murdered, so I can understand some of their reluctance. The terrorism isn't just against the West.

hello strangers wassup,i guess its widely accepted that bin laden is GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT?!anyways the reason why "terrorists' KILL innocent people may be because they consider themselves in an ongoing war and the innocents are simply casualties of this war.But i am sure you all know this is prophecy being fulfilled so the reality is that we can only really observe this movie in which some of us are stars and others just supporting actors.PEACE

You are right. However, the difference between a terrorist and a 'freedom fighter' or regular military is that terrorists target innocent civilians. Freedom fighters and regular military target militarily important places and people in order to stop the enemy.
Yes, innocent people get killed in war. They suffer in war. But under terrorist attacks, they are the target. Their lives are the main reason for the attack.
If someone is at war with the US, then the White House, the Pentagon, and the Capitol are valid targets. The WTC isn't.
In Israel, the military, police, and political structures would be valid targets. A 9-month-old baby in her mother's arms shot by a sniper is not. Nor is a busload of children. Nor is a shopping mall filled with women and children.
It is easy to see the difference between terrorists and warriors. Terrorists target the innocent. Warriors protect the innocent.

Islamism is an ideology that is even more oppressive than communism. Â It doesn't recognize the right of ANY religion other than Islam to exist. [/quote]
Talking about ideology ..... there is a very very good article written on the ideology of democracy and capitalism, which the writer said can be as brainwashing as communism. It also reveal the perception of the Americans that everything THEY do is for the divine good. All else are not God blessed.
This is a very long 'absorbing' article and you will need to register first to access deeper. But at the homepage, do a search for : America the 'super-duper' power
I think LDS will find this interesting.

The doctrine of pre-emptive strikes is a big mistake, and the war on terror vis-a-vis invasion of a sovereign nation, should have stopped at Afghanistan. Now with Iraq in such a mess, the stakes has been escalated to a very discomforting high. Our everyday lives has been threatened not just by the terrorists but also in part by how the US president responded to them.
I wonder when I will be required to bulletproof my car, maybe fit in an anti-missile system as well.
he Bush administration plans to spend about $100 million to develop an anti-missile system for commercial planes, more than originally discussed, reflecting concern that terrorists might try to use shoulder-fired rockets to shoot down an aircraft.

Are you saying that based on this case or in any case? Would it be 'ok' to allow a country to attack you if you know you can stop it?
Oh, oh, these kinds of things usually means:
1. There are those that will use religion to still preach havoc
2. The US is getting less tolerant with Islam
3. Your guess and mine...

Well this thread has been asleep, probably because no one knows where Bin Laden is? However there some new information concerning why he could be hiding so well. Maybe the US needs to go into Iran if they are ever to clean out all the 'hiding spots'?
TERROR WOES MAY BE WIDENING
A handful of senior al-Qaida operatives who fled to Iran after the Afghan war
may have developed a working relationship with a secretive military unit linked
to Iran's religious hard-liners, American coun- terterrorism officials say.
