Osama Bin Laden Friend or Foe? Islam Studies

The hunt for Osama seems to be a topic of non-interest these days after many years of trying to capture him one has to wonder if he does not have a lot of friends in Pakistan? Nevertheless, we see increased willingness to commit violent suicide in the hope of blowing up any that oppose and we have to sit back and wonder still - does he have more friends or foes?

Osama Bin Laden Friend Foe - Page 22

Despite the wretched man he is, Osama Bin Laden is now seen as a leading warrior in the Islamist world, a man who despite ailments, was able to touch the deepest parts of the USA, something previously thought impossible. Now, this is no longer about Osama, but about every crazed mind that seeks to be like him.

TERROR GROUPS HAVE ABUNDANT SUPPLY OF RECRUITS, RESOURCES, EXPERTS SAY
Car bombs at an Egyptian luxury hotel. Explosions in London subways. Suicide blasts in Baghdad. With the frequency of terror attacks apparently mounting, experts searching for common threads behind the attacks suggest that the war on terror is being waged against an ever-increasing well of recruits, bound together by motives and cause -- rather than a single al-Qaida mastermind.

Osama Bin Laden Friend Foe Studies Islam - Page 22

Osama Bin Laden is nothing more than a figurehead.

I am honestly amazed that so much attention is given to his capture when there is so little evidence to suggest he is behind most of these modern day terrorist attacks. There is no proof, just some ridiculous claim of responsibility that makes him look like a hero.

I don't believe he is the root of Islamist terrorism, I believe this is a convenient excuse to perpetuate this ridiculous war on terror. He is a frail old man that makes some token announcement at times when muslims are pissed off with the West.

He was once a powerbroker but now a lot of middle east observers suggest he just plays a symbolic role. Does it really matter?

He is a distraction, his capture will not quell terrorism in the middle east. When the West starts realising that young muslims are blowing themselves up for deeper reasons than religion then we might have a chance to end such atrocities.

A recent report I read revealed that the overwhelming majority of suicide attacks were motivated by occupation and suppression, not religion or lifestyle as our leaders like to fantasize. Bin Laden must be laughing at the West's incompetence at dealing with the real causes of terrorism, it surely is his best propaganda tool.

Why we waste so much media coverage on him is beyond me, there are far worse terrorists committing worse crimes against humanity everyday that go un-noticed.
