I have finally started on my basement and have ripped out the old tiles and insulation from the ceiling that was full of mouse dropping from years gone by. I am going to put in a click type track that attaches the tiles to the ceiling. I was going to insulated it and thought of putting in a vapor barrier under the insulation to help reduce dust in the future.
Does anyone think it would sweat in the plastic if I did this? it is under my kitchen area.
The only issue with foam insulation is your insurance company does not like it due to the chemicals it gives off if it starts to burn. Me personally have no issue with it as I am sure its toxic fumes are no worse the the 5o other materials in the basement that are petroleum based any how.
I think that insulation in the basement ceiling is a waste of time. IF your basement has good windows and is sealed you will not be getting a lot of cold air coming up from the basement. If you put in a drop ceiling in the basement as a way to finish the basement it will give you more insulation than you really need. IF you are having drafts coming from your basement you need to seek out the source and deal with that. Insulating the walls of your basement will help the over all efficiency on your homes heating and cooling. This way you do not have to worry about a moisture barrier under you main floor. Just my thoughts on this.
