Comments: If I could talk to Susan Chamberlain, I would emphasize two (2) points to her related to this debacle. Firstly, she was dealing with a Ukrainian, who suffer (at least in my opinion) from strong Russian influence. And (again my opinion) Russians are very short on scruples. Secondly, the wife had been married twice already? For these two reasons I am convinced that there was a strong lack of ethics on the part of the people she was dealing with. And she taken advantage of to what ultimately became nothing else but abuse. I feel for her tremendously.

Comments: I'm curious Joe. What's your part in this? You seem awfully concerned with the reputation of two people who have proven themselves to be mightily disreputable; the Kaplans. They were odious people who thought they could buy and sell people like slaves and I wouldn't have trusted a dog I liked with them. I feel badly for Susan because she trusted two jerks with a lot of buying power. And I really feel sorry for poor Shane/Benajmen because eventually those two will turn on him if he crosses them in any way. They are dirty people and he was just acting out his fantasy of being a pervert. And for that a woman's life was ruined just for basic stupidity on her part. The Kaplans are just sleazy!

Comments: An appeal? Do you know how much an appeal costs? Do you know how much an attorney costs? Just to ASK an attorney to CONSIDER an appeal would cost her, at minimum, $300... Cash money, grocery money, REAL MONEY. Then she'd actually have to pay the fees, pay the attorney to help her wend her way through all the rules. It's a VERY expensive process... Not for the majority of citizens and this woman had three other children to feed. NO WAY could she afford even the minimal litigation she had already been involved in and given the judge's obvious opinions about the case, it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to convince another attorney to step into this losing battle out of the goodness of his or her own heart (unfortunately we're talking about attorneys here, and the adages are pretty much correct. Something in their education tends to blind them to reality... The legal system has become so bogged down that the average person cannot understand it, and therefore it has become counterproductive to its original purpose).
It's extremely naive to believe that "By the people, for the people" was a dream that this country succeeded in achieving. There's the dream, and then there's reality.
The good intentions of our forefathers have been forgotten along the way...

Comments: Susan Chamberlain needed sex education and information about birth control. What a mess she made of her life.
As for Mr. Kaplan, what was wrong with adopting a child? He had the resources to do that.
Terry, some people just want to have their own child even if they have to go through all sort of things and in this case, oh my goodness, the whole thing is so weird I don't even know where to start. The only victim here is the child who is now probably a teenager.

Comments: I am in full support of Susan. She was used and abused by that old man. Shane belongs with his real mother (Susan). I hope one day they will reunite.
