I agree with you! (wow that is a rare occurence) Laws in the US are almost similar to those in a cartoon with Mickey Mouse as judge. Mind you, if there was an effective judicial system then your jails would be doubled what they are now smile.gif because all the people like OJ, Puff Daddy, etc, etc would not be able to use technicalities to get off.

What? We agree?
Quick, let me go read what I wrote!
That is a definate possibility (jails being stuffed).

That brings up the issue of DETERRING crime, which implies very harsh penalties for crimes, which I wouldn't even think of introducing until we had a system that could be trusted.

Of course, half the laws we have wouldn't even be on the books either, so that would help a little.

Oh yeah, definitely. But I think the judicial system is a problem everywhere in the world...because you see judges are men that can not only commit mistakes but can also be dishonest. So, you pretty much trust this people and most of the time there is a big disappointment.

Here's another thought that will give you chills.
Did it ever occur to you that the entire legal community, from judges on down, has no investment in REALLY stopping crime?

Their entire careers and salaries depend on criminals  committing crimes. It that were curtailed to any serious degree, their incomes would be severely jeopardized.
Therefore, a fluorishing crime rate is essential to their well-being.

The same thing is true in the medical pharmaceutical profession.

How's that for "food for thought"?

I'm sorry, LDS.
It is not a pleasant thought, I agree.
But it is oh-so-true, and one of the bedrock things we would have to face in getting any real reform in our judicial system. I remain, as always, pragmatic about things.

Dozens of 'innocent' prisoners could be freed following USA TODAY investigation

Dozens of federal prisoners who are locked up even though prosecutors concede they are "legally innocent" could soon be released under new orders from the U.S. Justice Department. The department confirmed Monday that it had instructed its lawyers to abandon legal objections that could have blocked - or at least delayed - the inmates from being set free. The change follows an in-depth USA TODAY investigation in June that identified more than 60 people who were imprisoned for something an appeals court later determined was not a federal crime. Ref.
