Komen for the Cure Races as Research Shows Abortion-Breast Cancer Link

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- With October as breast cancer awareness month, Komen for the Cure is sponsoring races and events across the country to raise awareness of the potentially fatal disease. However, Komen isn't providing women with information on a way to help prevent breast cancer by not having an abortion. Although abortion advocates, and Komen, dismiss the research, experts have clearly shown an abortion-breast cancer link. The upshot? Having an abortion increases a woman's risk of having breast cancer while carrying a pregnancy to term lowers it. A July study done on women in Turkey who had abortions found a 66 percent increased risk of contracting breast cancer as a result. Dr. Vahit Ozmen and his colleagues at the Istanbul Medical Faculty at Istanbul University and Magee-Women's hospital in Pittsburgh conducted the new retrospective study. They published their findings in the April 2009 issue of the World Journal of Surgical Oncology and examined women who, between January 2000 and December 2006, were admitted to clinics of Istanbul Medical Faculty for examination. The researchers said that their findings showed abortion was "significantly associated with increased breast cancer risk." Ref. Source 7

Abortion Has Caused 300K Breast Cancer Deaths Since Roe

A leading breast cancer researcher says abortion has caused at least 300,000 cases of breast cancer causing a woman's death since the Supreme Court allowed virtually unlimited abortion in its 1973 case.

With tens of millions of abortions since the high court's decision and research confirming abortion increases the risk of contracting breast cancer, undoubtedly a large number of breast cancer cases, caused by abortion, have occurred over the last 38 years.

Professor Joel Brind, an endocrinologist at Baruch College in New York, worked with several scientists on a 1996 paper published in the Journal of Epidemiol Community Health showing a "30% greater chance of developing breast cancer" for women who have induced abortions. He recently commented on how many women have become victims.

"If we take the overall risk of breast cancer among women to be about 10% (not counting abortion), and raise it by 30%, we get 13% lifetime risk," Brind explains. Using the 50 million abortions since Roe v. Wade figure, we get 1.5 million excess cases of breast cancer. At an average mortality of 20% since 1973, that would mean that legal abortion has resulted in some 300,000 additional deaths due to breast cancer since Roe v. Wade." Ref. Source 6

Abortion-Breast Cancer: 53 of 66 Studies in 54 Years Show Link

In 1996, the Brind quantitative meta-analysis of the extant induced abortion and breast cancer studies showed that there were 23 studies, 10 of which were statistically significant. Since then, there has been no tabulation to include the studies after 1997. An unpublished review in 2003 showed that there were 40 studies which showed a positive association between induced abortion and breast cancer.

In 2004, the Beral "re-analysis" was purported to review the literature regarding the induced abortion breast cancer studies. There were many articles in the popular press asserting that this study showed that "more accurate" prospective studies did not show a link between abortion and breast cancer. A positive association was found with the retrospective studies, but this result was reported to be "misleading" in the abstract.

However, there were many major flaws in this "re-analysis." This study eliminated 14 published studies which had been subjected to peer review confirming the abortion breast cancer link, including a prospective study that showed a 90% increase in breast cancer risk with abortion. This demonstrated blatant selection bias. Ref. Source 9

My Mother Died From Breast Cancer, But I Won't Support Komen

In May 1990, my mother lost her 7 year battle with breast cancer at the age of 57. It was an unspeakable loss for me.

My father and I cared for her together at home until the end. For many years following, I generously supported Susan G. Komen and Race for the Cure. Each year, my family would walk in memory of my mother and to honor others who still struggled.

A few years later, my eyes were opened to the irony of the Komen/Planned Parenthood Connection and I withdrew my support.

First, I understood that Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in the world. Second, I realized that abortion had been linked to breast cancer for years and the research continued to become more clear. And third, I learned that Susan G.
