I guess just the regular player's handbook. There is one online Dungeons & Dragons SRD 3.5 - Dungeons & Dragons Manual for this game but what you're asking about seems to be in the 'monster' category so only the Dungeon Master will be able to say. He pops in once a day to check things.
I will not allow monster characters. If in the game you get changed to one then that is fine but to start you must be 1 level with max hit points. So no on the mind flayer and centaur Only exceptions are half giants or half orcs. I [have?] all the major source books of 3.5 Dungeons & Dragons so stay within them.
Dungeon Master, what's your position on leveling up? Do we roll or is everything standard max for dice?
When leveling up you must roll the dice and add in your constitution bonus. If you roll a 1 I let you accept a 2. Max is just first level random rolls is the rest. Remember when you go up to the next level you start your experience again at Zero.

Okay so, as far as I can tell (Because I've never had the situation of actually leveling up) if I started at level 1 with 0 total experience. That means I am at level 2 with 500 exp to go to get to 3.
So since I did level up at least once I get one +1 D6 to my total HP, minus my current CON modifier (Which is -1 right now) and I get a +1 to my base attack bonus and a +2 to both my Reflex and will saves
And now that I've actually did a little bit more digging and understand my own class better I should have the "Counter song", "Fascinate", and "Insiper courage" abilities as described in the handbook.
Im not going to add anything untill I get the okay from the Dungeon Master, just to make sure I fully understand what's going on.
Arkanoth, don't forget to pick bard spells known too!
To be honest, this is the first time I'm hearing of the XP reset to zero. I just want to make sure (I'll take only the first d6 if so).
So I honestly don't know, the book said about 4 spells known at level 1, and 5 spells known at level 2. So does that mean I should choose 5 different spells out of the 0-2 list? And does include the bardic music and knowledge?
I have always preferred characters to level up more slowly and more like the original rules so that is why I have the experience reset at zero for each level. I found that one of my character in the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons game when converting to 3.5 went from level 14 in AD&D to level 35 in 3.5 according to experience points. When talking with other Dungeon Masters they suggested resetting characters to 0 exp per level and it works greatly. As far as leveling up every one can use this math. Total experience is 3,500. Subtract the 1,000 needed for level 2. That leaves 2,500 exp. So yes you are 500 experience points from level 3. Yes Your math was correct Arkanoth.
Yes you get 1 d6 to add to Arkanoth. I do not however accept 1s so if you roll a 1 you get 2 thus with your -1 that leaves you a 1. As far as spells. At first level a bard gets 2 zero level spells at first level thus you choose your two zero level spells to use. At 2nd level you get 3 zero level spells to use per day. That is the number you can use per day a high Charisma score can add to the number of spell per day bonus. Same with spells known. You get to pick four spells at Zero level that you learned from your teachers. After that you must buy or find spells to add to your known spells. You get a bonus of first level spells with a high Charisma score. You get special abilities as a bard at 1st level of bardic music, bardic knowledge, counter song, fascinate, and inspire courage +1. These are special abilities a bard gets at Level 1.
Any other questions you can ask.
