You all watch the bird fall form the sky. After it disappears you all look around. This is when you notice that it is very quiet. You do not hear any birds or other animals that usually make the sounds of the forest somewhat pleasing. It is as if time is taking a breath and holding it.
Albrecht, Krama and Avan move to the side of the road while The driver tries to postition the wagon. Bastion moves over into the trees to find some bracing timber. Deanna and Krusten move in position behind the wagon as Ildrahil moves int othe woods in the attempt to scout the stronghold. Krusten tells her bird to fly again. Krama, Albrecht and Avan hear something ahead towards the top of the hill. Avan spots a figure as a bolt of energy flies towards and hits Krustens hawk. Her hawk takes 15 damage from the energy bolt. About this time arrows come into the camp. The driver is hit falling off the wagon. Deanna is hit as is bastion. Each take 6 points damage.
Deanna Reacts as she is trained and sends a scorching ray at the one who hit Krustens bird dealing damage to him. You hear him yell and then he heads back down the far side of the hill. Soon you hear horses moving away at a fast clip.
This was a ambush a hit and run attack. Everyone has a chance of a save vs reflex to get an attack at the figures before they are out of sight.
Avan you need to roll initiative for Fluffles as he is in the thick of it.
Ildrahil roll spot checks to see if you are in a position to see where they are as you were moving away to the north through the woods along the side of the hill.
As you go charging up the hill you are all slowed as you see a series of ropes that are strung across the roadway to trip the mounts. If you when charging through your mounts would be tripped and hurt. This slows you down enough that they make clean their escape. This includes the wolf that was summoned.
Ildrahil sees them charging down the far side of the hill headed back toward the stronghold. He is able to get a shot off. He can see that his arrow hit Fluffles finds itself at the edge of the road and is able to attack one but they keep going. As they ride hard for the stronghold Ildrahil can get another shot off. Fluffles is still looking for the bird.
I need a roll for Fluffles to find the bird. He will have to expose himself in the area outside of the woods and in view of the stronghold to get the bird. Ildrahil fires his bow again and watches the arrow hit a guy on horse back. They still do not slow down. Soon they are on the causeway and headed towards the main gate.
Krusten slices the ropes in flurry and then stomps down to where her bird must have landed. When she gets there she will find her bird laying on the ground with a broken neck from the fall dead.
As Krusten is caring for her bird and laying it to rest Fluffles spots the downed bird. He is not able to get to it due to a patrol of men and horses at the same sight. He watches them pick the slain bird up and place it in a sack carefully. The bird is bigger than Krustens and about the same size as Fluffles. Fluffles turns back and heads back towards the group.
Ildrahil seeing that the group is heading back into the stronghold heads back as well. He did not see the other patrol.
You head to the top of the hill to where the clearing is. Those who have been here before can see that nothing has changed with the stronghold that you can tell. Thos who are here for the first time are getting a good look at the stronghold as it is built into the side of a mountain. The only way to it is over a causeway to the main gates unless you wish too cross over a very rocky and uneven rocky area and then try to cross a chasm that is of unknown depth. The drawbridge you can see is raised. You are able to turn the wagon around and head back to the top of the next hill back where there is a campsite.
Everyone moves into the woods and makes their way to the edge of the forest just out of site from the cleared area in front of the stronghold. It is about 1/4 a mile about 500 meters from the edge of the forest. You can hear sounds from inside the stronghold but not real clear. Most of it is shouts of joy and other jubilant shouts.
