Avan continues his attempts to try to swim to the riverbank before reaching the suddenly appearing waterfall.
Catching up to where Avan is caught up on the rock, Lukas checks that the rope is securely tied, then takes the other end and throws it across a little upriver from the druid, so the current will wrap it around him.

Zork adjusts his position so he does not lose feeling from lack of blood flow. He turns to Krusten and asks, "What could be taking them so long?"
"I have no idea" says Krusten in reply to Zork. She continues to keep her focus on the waterfall and what might come from there. "I can't be distracted right now… go look if you want."
Avan takes a short rest on the rock, waiting for the others to catch up. When he finally spies Lucas and the rope, he ties it around himself and suggests, "Anchor it around a tree." He throws over his own silk rope that had been around his waist, "Tie that one around another tree."
Hoping that they hold and that Lucas can add his own strength, Avan tries swimming back to shore.
If he makes it, he says, "I really did not expect the currents to be that strong. This river is deceptively calm on the surface, but it must run deep underground like The Strid. Next time, we take every precaution. Let's go back."
Seeing to the horses she keeps them calm while stroking their backs and humming a tune she remembers from her earlier years.
