Albrecht goes on high alert as he notices that the forest is suddenly far too quiet. He whispers "You guys can't hear anything either, right?" Before riding over to the driver of the wagon. He tells him that they should angle the wagon across the road so that whoever comes from the fort won't have an easy time getting to them. He then confers with the others about their best plan. He warns them not to stand directly downhill of the wagon, as it might tip if someone tries to push it over. He then lays out his plan to have the mage and Bastion behind the cart, while Krusten and Ildrahil go wherever they think they can engage the enemy from best. He then says that Avan and he will go hide on the side of the road a little ahead and wait for whoever comes from the fort. He plans to wait until either sunset or someone comes from the fort and they attempt to do something with the cart.
Out of Character: This is mostly Daishain's plan, but I haven't heard any objections to it in the other thread. There are arrow slits in the wagon to fire out of, but you run the risk of the wagon being turned over with you inside it (Based on an ominous sounding warning from the GM in the questions thread).
In Character: "Yes, well done indeed. Far be it from me to presume Krusten, but could you return your bird to the sky? This silence bothers me, I think we need to know what is going on as best we can."
"In the same vein, Ildrahil, while we prepare here, can you proceed towards the fort? Remain hidden, and return swiftly with news of whatever you find."
After Albrecht lays out his plan, Bastion will hunt about for a suitable rock and timber, multiple of each if need be, and uses them to brace the wagon in position such that it isn't easily tipping over in spite of the slope. "Deanna, Krusten, It should be safe enough to make use of those arrow slits now."
Addressing the driver, he'll instruct the man to take the wagon team and most of the riding horses a little further downhill to wait. No point in them staying in the line of fire. He'll keep Arion with him.
Out of Character: Krusten, can I get my glove back? I rather like the thing, I might give it a name before this is said and done .
Avan doesn't change his instructions to Fluffles and the cat sneaks away to search where he saw the bird fall. The druid then reassures the horses asking them if they can sense anything about to happen - or just in general how they feel right now.
He joins Albrecht in his hiding spot, ready to ambush.
Ildrahil nods at Bastion and uses the woods and shadows to move towards the fort and scout around. He moves slowly and hides when and where he can. When he stops and hides himself, he wills himself to be quiet, calms his breathing down and listens to his surrounding and looks to see if he can spot anything out of the ordinary, bending all of his senses to this task.
Out of Character: Ildrahil will take tem for his Move Silently and Hide check since he isn't under any stress… yet. With his bonuses that gives him a 19 for each.
Out of Character: I forgot to roll Albrecht's hide check. I am rolling it below to be combined with my previous post.
Krusten nods her head and sends her birdie into the air. "Find them" she says with confidence as she knows her birdie finds the small, the hidden and the devious creatures of the forest. She does her own looking around and tries to pick up any sounds.
Ildrahil continues to scout when the hairs on his back stand up. Something is wrong. His father and uncle always told him to listen to these feelings. He stops and looks to see if he spots anything.
Out of Character: I rolled attack, damage, and initiative in case spot works. I think damage is correct.
Bastion is more than a little surprised that their foe was able to respond so swiftly, but he steps up, and fires his bow.
He doesn't bother watching to see if the arrow hits its mark, and instead moves to mount his horse and gets Arion moving up the hill as fast as the slope allows. He shouts, "Mages, slow them down or cut them off if you can, we cannot allow them to repeat their actions, or get to the fort."
Out of Character:Charging after them, but he'll stop chasing if it becomes clear the party is not able to slow them down.
Incidentally, unless told otherwise, or it is obviously capable of such, I'll assume any incoming damage doesn't bypass Bastion's DR and reduce incoming damage accordingly.
It should also be noted that Deanna would have been lent the Wand of Fireballs by this point, with the understanding that she's free to use it where appropriate.
