Prior to hearing about the Crown's offer, but after parting out Deanna's share of the haul and bidding farewell to the mage, Bastion will seek out the availability and pricing for a couple of magic items.
He will also ask around to find out if someone is willing to enchant the armor plating covering his body on relatively short notice, and/or upgrade the enhancements on the +1 shield looted from the fort..
Out of Character: Bastion's Item wish list (Sorry for the length):
- +4 belt of Magnificence Miniatures handbook
- Luckstone
- type 3 or 4 Bag of Holding, possibly multiples thereof
- Portable Hole
- Ring of Protection
- Ring of Vampiric Regeneration
- Cloak of Resistance
- Greater Iron Ward Diamond Magic Item Compendium
- Rod of Ropes Complete Scoundrel
- Ioun Stones: Pale Green Prism, Dusty Rose Prism, and/or Dark Blue Rhomboid
- Warforged Components: Tracker Mask, Lesser Ebon Hunter Monocle, Vanguard Boots, and/or Essence of the Guard
Also, reminder, you said I'd be meeting the guy with the 3rd gem inventor item.

Upon hearing of the offer, and after conferring together for a time, the team agrees to sign over the fort to the crown in exchange for the hefty quantities of platinum.
Afterwards, Bastion and the others will prepare for a journey away from this town, resting for a few days and picking up supplies as needed.
Out of Character: general consensus in the party thread seems to be that the damage in regards to potential war has already been done, someone will claim that fort sooner or later, and the next offer might be via the point of a sword. So we're taking the money and running.
If we wished to avoid both the potential border conflict and what sounds like a familial power dispute to the south, am I correct in presuming that the path East would be our best shot? The one we partially cleared of the hobgoblin/minotaur/egomaniacmage threat. We would prefer to end up somewhere our coin could be well spent.
Krusten is somewhat satisfied by her last adventure, she felt she could have done more. She 'let' her birdie die for which she cannot forgive herself as she feels responsible.
While her new found riches allows her to achive more materially she feels the need to take some self introspection. Perhaps a far place where there are monks or priests that can guide her in areas she lacks.
When the time is right she will take her share of the loot and bid everyone a safe journey until she has accomplished a few things.
"I will catch up with you… " she says awkwardly.
"I need to acquire a few tricks before I return, I will find you all… "
Out of Character: Its been great adventuring. I like this team, we work well, a bit slow but what can I say. I will catch up again.
Avan asks the people offering this windfall of wealth whether it will be sent here, or would be better to go to collect it? Since the party isn't tied down with responsibilities, it's an option to travel to the treasury or wherever it's kept, if the party agrees of course.
Bastion nods to the others, indicating his assent to head to the capital, and resumes his preparations to leave. So far as he is concerned, there is little point in remaining much longer.
When the agreed upon departure day arrives, he will be waiting at the eastern gate along with the war wagon.
Albrecht thinks about shopping around, but has looked pretty exhaustively at what this little town has to offer. He isn't overly fond of big cities, but with his newfound abilities and wealth, he is going to need access to larger supplies. He also thinks it would be safer for the group to go pick up their money than to have their money sent here. He lets the others know that he is camping out on the east side of town, just outside the gates, whenever they are ready to leave. He will check back there every few hours as he comes to sell the small animal pelts and things he collects as he hunts for his and Krama's food.
Out of Character: Albrecht is mostly ready. I need to finalize my spell selection, but with his healing wands already, he is plenty prepared for the 3 week journey.
