Maddie smiles and says many are confused about that. I am a half elf and John is human he is the grandson of the man who took me in. I am 93 years old. I am just small. John is a good person and now he needs to find a new mate. As long as I draw life into me I will protect him and his family from harm if I can. John is only 24.
Faerra blinks and shakes her head in confusion.
"I still don't quite understand, but these people are not your family, then? Don't you suppose they might actually be safer if you simply left? I don't mean to be rude, but from what you tell me, the townsfolk only have a problem because they don't like YOU. Would they leave John alone if... I don't know, if they thought you were kidnapped by an Orc raider, and were gone forever?"
Maddie looks at you and simply says I do not know. I have not lived anywhere else my entire life. I do not know what would happen. But if something did happen and I was not here to help them I do not know if I could forgive myself. They may not be blood related but they are the only family I know.
"Well, I don't really have anywhere to be, here is as good as anyplace. I'd work hard of course. I can cut wood, as you've already seen, and I'm pretty good at making weapons and armour, and what is a knife but a smaller dagger? I'll understand if you'd rather I leave, though."
Faerra holds out a hand to Maddie as she sits on the edge of the bed. She smiles welcomingly. "I would love to stay here with you, Maddie. I owe you so much, I only hope I will be able to repay you in the future. I barely know you, but I would gladly stay by your side."
