There were only 4 wands of cure light available. The towns name is Gralen. You were able to get some items before the expedition to the cave and back. The rest you can get now.

Glad to hear it, while we work out our next move, are there any buyers for the Wand of Wonder around here?

The mage at the mage shop will buy it for 6,000 gp. If you wish to part with it.

Two queries:
-What other settlements are within relatively easy traveling distance? What of significance would we know of them?
-For those who encountered the fort to the north. What kind of possible entry would they naturally think can be had using the Rod of Lordly Might's 50' anchored ladder function? For instance, could the group use it to scale the mountain, then rappel inside? Bastion would be asking such questions of them, so sort of teasing their memory by proxy here.

The sheer cliff of the mountain behind the fort is too steep and sheer to climb down. It is at least 2,000 foot drop so it will take a lot of rope and those down inside will have plenty of time to shoot up at you as you come down as the rope would very visible. The only way in is a frontal assault unless you can think of a way to infiltrate.

Anything else around is farmland as this is closer to the frontier with just small villages elsewhere nothing significant. This town helps supply those others. Next closest cities of some size are to the north through the mountains or east both being a good month walk.

For some reason, none of us recalled right away the RAW difficulty of using wands when one lacks the right spell list.

We can work with it for the CLW wands, as the druids can use them regardless.

But the Wand of Fireballs was a fairly important item in our working plan to take the fort in the north.

I don't suppose there is any way to make spell trigger items easier to use? Heck, maybe there's a novice sorcerer in town that could be recruited, and we haul around a glass cannon for this one mission.

If I remember any one can use a wand as long as they have the trigger word. I will look more into this once I get back to my place and look in the books to see if I can find anything that counterdicts this info. SO unless I find something else out you should be able to use any of the wands as needed.

Out of Character: As I mentioned to the others, that is always how I've felt it should work and if I recall right, that is how it worked in previous editions. However, I'll try to save you time spent researching and highlight the problem.

From the 3.5e SRD page on the Use Magic Device skill:

"Use a Wand
Normally, to use a wand, you must have the wand’s spell on your class spell list. This use of the skill allows you to use a wand as if you had a particular spell on your class spell list. This use of the skill also applies to other spell trigger magic items, such as staffs."

Now, UMD is a trained only skill, has a chance of negative consequences so one can't take 20 (And it specifically prohibits taking 10 for that matter), and the listed DC on that same page for using a wand is 20.

The only other way around not having the right spell list I am currently aware of is being a level 2+ artificer. But if one is multi-classing for the express purpose of using spell trigger items, it'd be more practical for someone to just pick up one level of Wizard.

If you are willing to rule otherwise, by all means, I'd be quite happy to go along with it. I am just assuming that we're sticking with the rules as written by default.
