Siyo (Hello), I'm just a Cherokee, but I live the culture everyday. I think that European arrival/immigration was the major factor in the disruption of our Native civilizations. This one event precipitated all of the factors that have led up to this point. Our lives were not perfect before "Contact", but they were our own to live. We answered only to ourselves, our neighbors, our family, and God. The deseases that came with contact preceded the expansion of European settlement and decimated our populations and lifeways. The first to go were our Elders, the keepers of our oral traditions, and then our young ones, the future of our people.
Today we still seek true freedom and self determination. We have all the same rights as other "Americans", but only if we live our lives as the would have us live them. We do not posses the same "Freedoms" That are ancestors possessed even a few generations ago. We are expected to have the same values and want the same things that the rest of mainstream America wants, but our traditional people don't. Its true that many Native people have assimilated into mainstream society, especially my fellow Cherokees, but some cling tightly to our old ways. For some of us its the only thing of value we have left. We still have fullbloods, there are more full blood Cherokees now then there have been in 200 years (About 20,000), but our culture and language is now starting to disappear. We have survived a lot, but just like the world over, we are finally becomming Westernized. Wado (Thank you), Wahd.
The main reason is of course greed. The land belongs to those who were first. The invaders took it as their own just because they had the numbers, lots of time and were better equipped.

Of the three you have to of course give the American Indians heart but their lack of technology and fighting methods left them open for slaughter. The Mexicans had to much land to cover and they were dealing with Spain so of course the Cowboys moved in and the rest was history.
