TALKS RESUME IN BEIJING TO END NORTH KOREA'S NUCLEAR PROGRAM

Talks resumed Monday in Beijing aimed at getting North Korea to dismantle its nuclear weapons program, the first such negotiations since Pyongyang tested a nuclear device in early October.

Not too long ago the US stance on N. Korea's nuclear program was someone else handle it. We didn't want to be forced to singlehandedly deal with the problem. After years of China, S. Korea, Japan, Russia, and even N. Korea asking us to become involved in the talks, we cave and get involved in the situation. Now the US is catching flak for doing what the international community wanted.
I wish that US foreign policy becomes "let the UN handle it" shortly after reducing UN funding by about 80%.

Don't worry, this will shortly become the "food for promisses" pact that has been hashed out for the last 20 years with N. Korea. Of course, they will get the food, money and various support for their starving and we will again get an empty vow not to build any more nukes.

We and the rest of the world will be "shocked" when we find out that N. Korea lied and was building nukes anyway.

Some things never change!

I wonder if giving the countries seeking nuclear weapons an idea of what nuclear attacks are like would be a least damage solution. If they want to play with the "big dogs" they should know what's at stake. I see some of these countries as all to eager to use these weapons regardless of the retaliation visited upon them. I'm concerned that some minor country with suicidal grudges and nothing to lose starts the events leading to WWIII. *cough...cough... Iran*

Now that didn't take too long. It seems as though N. Korea is going to lend some of its nuclear expertise to Iran. Many more scientist have been moving back and forth between the two countries. I am sure that N. Korea will be getting something in return for the "favor" of total information exchange on their underground explosion last year. Do you think that it will be food to support the needy in N. Korea or will it be cash or even perhaps some sort of missle exchange program? My money is that the poor and starving of N. Korea will remain that way:

QUOTE
The Iranians are reported to have been encouraged by the fact that no punitive action was taken against North Korea, despite the international outcry that greeted the underground firing.

This has persuaded the Iranian regime to press ahead with its own nuclear programme with the aim of testing a low-grade device, which would be difficult for international inspectors to detect.

Now the key question: Did GWB create the "axis of evil" or did it really exist?

I guess the only thing to be thankful for at the current time is that N. Korea is sharing with the results of an underground explosion that they seem to be planning to duplicate. Basically, at least, the initial test is not above Tel Aviv.

Are you serious? So you want to murder millions of people in North Korea because their dictator leader, who was forced on the population and routinely starves his people, is a lunatic?

How would you like it if people started nuking you because of Bush?

Thankfully most people in the US don't think like you do. And maybe you should actually prove that both N Korea and Iran are building nukes before you accuse them without knowing a thing about the whole conflict.

No more nuke tests so the news on NK has died down some, and you know what they say... "good news is no news at all", so NK's new front is one of we are all good to everyone now - what is the catch? Did thy win? Did they in fact come out on top as they so desired?
