Wait you are kidding?
The US, while a formidible force, is not invincible.
Nice to know you are still sane.[/sarcasm]
I wonder if the US has ever thought about that, or do they think the world will never do that? Here I am about to go Churchy again...
According to end times there will be an army of the North that will overrun Israel up until half of Jerusalem. So bad will be the war that the Big Man has to come. Now I often think what will cause Israel to be dysfunctional and the US and Britain not help? I feel the future Great War could see the US and UK too busy to help Israel? But what would make them so busy? It would have to be a great force, not just a few terrorists running around. Food for thought huh?

You think so? Let them try to put one of our generals on trial and see what happens. |

Hi all,
Been busy lately, with the Iraq war and such. I have been writing to editors of our local Malaysian newspapers on my opinions. And I would like to share one of them here.
...................................................................................
Dear Editor,
I just want to tell somebody what I feel and point out another factor that contributed to the current dangerous situation, the attack on Iraq. So, I guess you are as good an audience as can be. Thank you for listening. Here goes....
I am very cheesed off with the way the United Nations has performed in this crisis. The Sec-Gen has totally failed in his duty, one that the whole world entrusted upon him, and that is the upholding of the UN Charter. As the leader of the world body, he should have been firmer and tougher with Blair and Bush right from the start. He should have rally the rest of the world and nipped the idea of unilateralism at the bud. But he didn't. He should be the one telling Bush off, not the other way around.
Annan has uttered nary a squeak while all the arguing between US/UK and France/Russia was going on. He went dumb in all the world media. His silence was so deafening, so deafening indeed. He finally managed a feeble statement when the US/UK attack seemed imminent, and it was a half-hearted effort at warning Bush/Blair. In effect, I totally agree with the Iraqi envoy that Annan has in fact acceded to the whims of Bush.
Kofi Annan should be impeached. Kofi Annan should take some of the blame and responsibility for this mess that the world is in now. The United Nations is for peace, not to sanction war. It is to prevent aggression against another, not to help spawn it. Annan should seriously review his own actions, or inactions, and take the honorable path by stepping down and allow another more capable individual to take the rest of the world to a more secure, safer and gentler platform. Annan is dispensable but not the UN Charter which has worked to keep peace for the past half century. The criminal actions of the US/UK is threatening to shred this very Charter, abetted by the inactions of the keeper himself.
I have to get this off my chest and to point out that the UN did not fail. The Sec-Gen, Kofi Annan did. The UN has shown its relevance all the more so by the clarity of vision of what is right and what is wrong as displayed by the rest of the Security Council members, The UN has become more relevant BECAUSE of that opposing stand taken, contrary to the US argument that it will become irrelevant if it does not endorse the attack. Now the UN has shown that it is mature enough to move away from being just a rubber stamp to the US. All we need now is a stronger leader to guide the world body.
May the fire that is started by Bush and Rumsfeld be put out soon before it consumes the whole world into another world war. PEACE!
....................................................................................
Thanks y'all for listening.
JB,
I don't care to be drawn into any theological-philosophical discussion of these issues. That only engenders ill will.
Fireduck,
Oddly enough I agree with you.
In the same sense that I see the anti-wr demonstrators as necessary to our society, the voice of the UN acts as a restraining force on any armed conflict.
You cannot simply unleash military force and allow it to go unchecked.
When I see anit-war protests, I know our country is still alive and well, and I feel better.
I don't agree with them, but I am glad they are there to keep hotheads like me in check.
Well, it looks more and more like the UN is exactly as the name of this thread "The US's Nations"
Bush has told them all that the US is going to run Iraq, and that the UN, France especially, can go fly a kite.
The administration already has cut a deal with some Iraqi exiles, very prominent ones, to take over, step in once things are stable and form the new government.
They are immensely "grateful" to the US for "liberating" Iraq, and especially grateful for making them the new rulers.
They are already making anti-French statements and have said they WANT the US to keep troops there "as a stabilizing force" in the region. Imagine that! : :
Anybody that says Bush doesn't know exactly what he's doing is living in FantasyLand.
Plus, the CIA has caught Russia red-handed, right now, today, with their people on the ground in Baghdad, trying to show the Iraqis how to use Patriot jamming technology (sold by Russia to Iraq). OOps! Bye bye Russia. CheckMate! ;D

Stranger, and all those things you mentioned are supposed to be good? That goes against ANY definition of Democracy! What the heck Bush thinks he is? The king of the world??? what's wrong with him?. If there is a country that doesn't like the US or Bush don't like the government he thinks he can change it all?. Maybe yes, he has the resources to do it but it doesn't make him right!. A person who believes that what he's doing is for the benefit of people or is a dumb stupid or have mental disability that need some kind of treatment. The USA don't like, don't want, don't tolerate ANY kind of opposition or threat from other countries, they want to live with all countries worshiping them like if they were some kind of idols. When a politian or government don't tolerate opposition then is when the danger starts...because listen, I do agree with what they think about Saddam and all that BUT Bush is behaving in my opinion in the same way but of course he's smarter and presides one of the most important countries in the world.
I was watching the Iraqi people receiving food...I had tears in my eyes when I saw that, they were desperate for food and clean water. I was watching the small kids that were hurt in the bombings and I got so so so angry and frustrated!.
Countries like Afghanistan and Iraq had been actively involved with the USA in the past (case of...who trained Osame Ben Laden?) : Americans forget so easily.
It scares me to death to know there is a guy out there who believes is God...yes, George W. Bush. It scares me if one day I'm living peacefully in my country and because he doesn't like my President or for whatever other reason he goes and bomb my land. It's crazy, outrageous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But like I always say 'what goes around comes around' and I do deeply believe that will happen.

JB,
Exactly. Your grasp of international politics is exquisite.
Maybe we need to make you President of Trinidad.
LDS,
First I must address a fundamental that, while not relevant to this, comes into play all the time in other ways that become very serious.
The United States is not a democracy. A democracy is a very poor form of government that has very fatal flaws in its makeup. The United States if a Republic, and there is a world of difference in the two.
While I agree with you in principle, you, like most good-hearted people overlook one simple fact.
That's the way it is.
International politics is a devious, backstabbing, dog-eat-dog world of power, domination and a battle for advantage.
Period.
Nothing you say or believe will change that. It has been going on ever since people got the stupid idea to have governments in the first place.
It's all about power, and the moment you forget that, the moment your politicians forget it, you get relegated to the peanut gallery of the UN and NATO, playing "yes man" to Russia, China, the US or whoever else happens to be in power.
You must look the situation in the eye, see it for what it is and deal with that.
And for those of us who dont have any real power, we must look at those pictures of the kids being fed and finally given water, sigh and say, at least some good came out of this. Those kids got a little bit of a break.
I know all about the rest, like who trained Osama, like who gave Saddam those chemicals in the first place, like who was trying to work an oil pipeline deal with him while he was hitting Iran with chemical attacks. I know all that.
It doesn't change the bottom line facts. For me those facts are, would you rather be in Baghdad?
Both of them are mean, wicked, nasty men. There are no good guys in that deal.
