I think China is rather fond of its free market as well. I dont think anyone needs to be humbled as that just leads to hard feelings that basically never end. However, I do find it interesting that you mention humbling and love of free markets as if China doesnt play in these arenas. The #1 exporter of goods is China and if we in the West love all that is free market...isnt it humiliating enough to know that we are not the best at it...China is! What you speak to is more like retribution.

Comments: Ok once again I comment on this.
Ok yeah bombing didn't win but look at what kind of fear it puts down on people.
It's fear that controls people. Yes look at Iraq we have toys but they aren't afraid. Plus china needs the USA for free market. Yeah the British didn't give up hope but they weren't exactly jolly were they. Plus the reasons why we didn't win with air superiority in wars is because we didn't want collateral damage on the civilian population and they use guerrilla warfare.
The USA has a very good missile defense system anyway and also the Chinese are really packed up but so are we in some places.
To defeat either you need to put them in chaos or destroy the government.
So Frank...
You just basically said we need to Glass Beijing. We have to not be afraid of the casualties. We have to be blood thirsty and indiscriminant in our killing. The reason we will not do that is because WE dont want to look at the aftermath on TV. However, as I said before, the Chinese people have suffered far greater hardships that a few bombing raids. You can fire bomb them and it will not break them...they have suffered worse. All they have to do is take out our sattelite TV's and the US will freak. Make WalMarts shelves a little sparse and see us squirm. You think the China will freak out at missing a Walmart or two? Trust me...they didnt know Walmart until the last decade plus.
Sure we can win, but we have to be willing to glass the place with nukes...anything short wont work. So keep on commenting...
The British were actually strengthed by the bombing. The Japanese became more willing to fight to the bitter end...whatever that may be due to the bombing. Jolly...no...angered yes. No war has been won with pure air superiority...none.

This is a really strange topic, especially some of the comments... why should or would the US bomb China? What is the justification or reason of this? Can the US solve a problem without blowing people up? Some of the people on this thread think not.
If being a superpower is about blowing all of your rivals to hell, what is the point of being a superpower? I agree with Vincezo on this wholeheartedly.

China is a very large nation. If you were thinking of bombing it you would need many nukes all set to go off at the same time. Their militay is largely ground based. More aircraft carriers and they can be seen as a significant threat. WHo gave them nuclear technology anyhow, the Russians or the US?

It's interesting to me that the Pentagon provides this annual report on the military affairs of China as some kind of "public service." Are they serious? Ask yourself a couple of questions about this:
If the Pentagon really had detailed, in-depth knowledge of China's military actions, would they make it public? Why? While some of this report may be true, there is also a lot of speculation and blathering, honestly.
Why are they trying to sway public - even global - opinion against China?
What are some recent headlines about/from China that affect the US for which this might be retaliation? (Think economy... )
