UNSC resolution on Syria won't be under Chapter 7 allowing use of force - Lavrov:
The resolution, Lavrov stressed, is meant only to affirm the support of the UNSC to the roadmap for destruction of the chemical weapons stockpile, which will be penned by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Ref. Source 4
UN Report Suggests Regime Behind Sarin Attack:
A U.N. Inspectors report on last month's chemical weapons attack in Syria suggests the rockets containing the nerve agent sarin were fired from the regime's elite military units based in mountains overlooking Damascus. Ref. Source 4
The U.N. Security Council voted unanimously to adopt a resolution that requires Syria to eliminate its arsenal of chemical weapons.
The move came soon after the executive committee of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons voted in the Netherlands to fast-track Syria's addition to the Chemical Weapons Convention.
Syria announced this month that it was willing to join the convention. The United States and other Western nations blame the Syrian government for an August chemical weapons attack outside Damascus that U.S. Officials estimate killed 1,400 people. Ref. CNN
Syria govt 'ready to go to Geneva for dialogue, not to hand over power to anyone' - FM:
The Syrian government is ready for peace talks with the opposition, but the legitimacy of President Assad "Isn't up for discussion," Syrian FM Walid Muallem said. It comes as the Syrian opposition remains undecided on who will represent them at Geneva. Ref. Source 9
