Pentagon's failed Syria program cost $2 million per trainee
Records obtained by USA TODAY show the $500 million effort to train and equip Syrian rebels cost about $2 million per fighter. Out of the $500 million budgeted, $384 million was spent. The program was supposed to train 3,000 fighters a year but only had 180 trained, vetted and equipped fighters, of which only 145 remain. Ref. USAToday
Did we learn NOTHING from Afghanistan? We'll spend billions of dollars so our troops can get shot at with US-made weapons. Give humanitarian supplies; support them in the UN, if you will. But overthrowing regimes and supporting rebels fails more often than it seems to work. I can hope it will all work out, but I'm suspicious.
