Little Festivity As Syria's Holiday Cease-Fire Fails

It's Eid al-Adha, or the feast of the sacrifice, a four-day religious holiday that is one of the holiest events of the Muslim world. But there is little to celebrate in Syria's largest city, Aleppo. A cease-fire called for the holiday is already crumbling, and in some areas it never took hold.

Syria opposition outraged by Clinton comments:
Mohammed Sermini, the press officer of the SNC, denounced the interference of Washington as "Imperialist." "It has no right to interfere in our affairs. Syria must make its own decisions," he noted. Ref. Source 4
President Obama welcomed the formation of an umbrella group for Syrian rebels fighting to topple the regime of Bashar al-Assad.
"We are constantly consulting with the opposition on how they can get organized so that they"re not splintered and divided in the face of the onslaught from the Assad regime," he told a White House news conference.
"I'm encouraged to see that the Syrian opposition created an umbrella group that may have more cohesion than they've had in the past. We're going to be talking to them," he said.
"We consider them a legitimate representative of the aspirations of the Syrian people. We're not yet prepared to recognize them as some sort of a government in exile but we do think it's a broad-based representative group." Ref. CNN
Syrian rebels accused government forces of bombing a hospital in the besieged city of Aleppo, killing at least 40 people.
Ralib al-Omar, a leader of the Yusif al-Asma rebel group, said the attack targeted the Dar al-Shifa Hospital, one of the main sources of medical help for people in Syria's commercial hub.
The Local Coordination Committees of Syria, a network of opposition activists, said 108 people were killed across the country on Wednesday. Ref. CNN
President Barack Obama issued a direct warning to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday over that country's stockpiles of chemical weapons, warning their use "Would be totally unacceptable," and vowing there would be consequences if such weapons were used. Ref. CNN
Syria Stresses It Won't Use Any Chemical Weapons:
The Ministry source slammed the US for being the first country in history to use nuclear weapons in 1945 against the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, calling on it to stop fabricating such things. Ref. Source 8
