You're not safe anywhere in this country. Thieves are everywhere stores, schools, you name it. You just have to be unlucky, being in the wrong place and in the wrong time for everything to be over.
QUOTE THREE men entered a popular Port of Spain textile store yesterday as customers in search of cloth, and left as robbers with more than $50,000 cash in hand, police said.
The robbery took place around 12.30 p.m. At the Queen Street, Port of Spain, branch of Miguel Moses and Sons Ltd. It took place just one day after president of the Downtown Owners and Merchants Association (DOMA) Gregory Aboud lamented the rising crime in the nation's capital.
According to reports, two of the men walked toward the cashier's station, while the third stood at the cloth store's entrance. One of the men approached the cashier and told of the trio's intention to rob the store. The man, who was believed to be armed with a gun, threatened to kill all present if he did not get the cash, police said.
The customers and most of the staff who were in the store at that time were oblivious to the robbery, police said. The majority of employees at the store are women and there was no security present.
The trio, who were not masked, managed to get more than $50,000 from the cashier, and calmly walked out with their loot.
Contacted yesterday, Aboud said the absence of city police from major streets in the capital was responsible for the current crime wave in the city. "We are not quite sure what is going on, but we can say that we have had reports from every major street in Port of Spain that City Police are nowhere to be seen," Aboud said...
