Politics - Ethical Spying?

These things are humorous, especially when you think about the subject matter. To think that the CIA has an ethical approach to spying is laughable, but what do you think? Is there ethics in spying?

scientist from Brigham Young University who helped develop ethical guidelines
for the Central Intelligence Agency nearly 30 years ago says policies adopted by
the Reagan administration are still at work today.

Spying Ethical Politics

With the war in Iraq progressing into months and possibly years many wonder about the effectiveness of spying at the executive level. Can it be that it is okay for a country to say 'friend' and at the same time have spies all about? Do you think (for instance) that the US has spies in the UK checking on Blair?

Absolutely. I think it was President Reagan who said "Trust, but verify." So we "trust" them as our friends and allies, but we "verify" that through "sources." Just making sure.

While I'm not convinced of the ethical nature of that practice, how else would it be managed?

In my opinion, of course.
