I found this article that explains all those colorful political terms that the US likes to use.

"I wish we could throw out all the old political labels and invent new ones. The ones we've got were once useful, but now have so many contradictory meanings that no label really fits anybody.

Take conservative. Like the word right, it has two opposites. The opposite of conservative is liberal, right? But the opposite of conservative is also radical.

(For those who are hopelessly confused, the two opposites of right are left and wrong. Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do.)"

Terms Political Politics

Wow.

Orson Scott Card is one of my favorite writers.  He expressed exactly how I feel.

I think, from what he wrote, I am a little less 'moderate' than he is on some issues, such as gun control, but I am certainly willing to discuss such issues.

Unfortunately, just as he said, we are forced to debate from the extremes.

As I have posted elsewhere, I tend toward libertarianism, with the focus on personal liberty, along with personal responsibility.  Yet, Libertarians focus on legalizing or at least decriminalizing 'recreational' drugs.  While I think that the 'War on Drugs' is wrong, I don't agree with the wholesale relaxation of drug laws.

I tend towards much more towards the modern 'conservatives' than I do towards modern 'liberals' due to the socialist, even Marxist tendencies of the liberal Left.  But I don't agree with the repressive legislative agendas that many 'Conservatives' seem to propose.
