U.S. Sergeant Raped in Afghanistan Found Nowhere to Go:

I think this is both a moral and training issue. True, it does make you wonder about the men's standards. However, I think it needs to be addressed in the training. They need to realise that women are not there for their sexual needs, that they are the same as the men, they are their sisters in combat. I find it just incredibly sad that this is going on. The soldiers do fantastic work and I can understand why women would want to be a part of this. However, why would they want to be involved, if one in three women in the military get raped? Its not just the US though. This happens in Australia and across the globe. Education is the only way to resolve this. And in all ranks of the military, not just the new cadets.

The number of reported sexual assaults across the military shot up by more than 50 percent this year, an increase that defense officials say may suggest that victims are becoming more willing to come forward after a tumultuous year of scandals that shined a spotlight on the crimes and put pressure on the military to take aggressive action.
