After alleged N.Y. beating, man charged with hate crime
Police said Moore and two other black men were walking in Howard Beach early Wednesday when they were attacked by three white men. One of Moore's friends said he was intending to steal a car, but Moore was not aware of the plan, officials said.
Prosecutors said Moore's assailants hurled racial slurs and allegedly told him, "That is what you get when you try to rob white boys."
The altercation happened just blocks from where three black men were beaten in 1986 after their car broke down. One of them, 23-year-old Michael Griffith, was killed by a car as he fled. The attack ignited racial tensions and was compared to a lynching by then-Mayor Edward Koch.

There absolutely is discrimination against black and hispanic americans. When ever someone is different from the majority there is discrimination. I have a huge question as to why though. This country is comprised of immigrants from other countries, we discriminate against those that are our heritage.
Recent problems with racial profiling and the draconian immigration laws being proposed are evidence that the majority, that is to say white, english speaking, non-accent having Americans neither trust nor like people different from them. The racial tension in this country only gets worse because no body will talk about what is ailing them any more, so the animosity grows instead of decreasing.
Our only hope to ever see an end is to teach the children right. We have to teach them that we are all equal. That black and white aren't so different, skin color shouldn't separate us. That we are a free country and that immigrant, legal or not, just want a job and want to have that same life for their kids as well. When our children grow up, they will teach this to their children, and we will see a vast majority of discrimination disappear.

If we are honest, we are prejudiced when it comes to all kinds of immigrants. When we see an Asian, we are likely to think they are going to be a computer nerd or is going to speak kinda childish, broken English and say something taboo like "Me love you long time". When we see an Irishman, we are likely to assume he is a heavy drinker and should be wearing green, like all good Irishman wannabe's do on St. Patrick's Day. It does seem to be more obvious when it come to African's and Latin American's, but the truth is that we have trained ourselves to judge based on color rather than on character. It breaks my heart. I've dealth with it my whole life. For instance, I'm a tall, slender, blonde, white female, and my entire life, there have been only two jobs I have been judged acceptably suited for: administrative assistant/secretary/receptionist or model. It may not be a racial prejudice, but it is a prejudice just the same. We all face them down every day, and it needs to stop because there is far more to every person than what meets the eye.
From what I've heard many White Americans who claim they have no problem with Blacks or Hispanics will not permit (or at least try to discourage) their son or daughter from marrying a Black or Hispanic person.
Gossip, the same can be said for many Hispanic and African American families: they forbid (or discourage) their children from dating and marrying Whites.

Everything has to do not only with race but how the child has been brought up. There are many caucasian families who really do not have a problem with their kids dating people from other races (I have met several of them in the US). The same applies with African-Americans or Hispanics.

There are alot of families of all races, who use race as a gauge when it comes to who their children should marry. It's true that some of those families do it in a racist way, but there is sound theory behind it.
It's not so much about race as it is about cultures. Race just happens to be an readily accessible way of telling whether or not someone is from a different culture. I know, in my life, I've seen the problems that can come from people of two different cultures marrying. My first husband was white, but a French cajan from Louisiana to his core. We were young and in love, but our marriage fell apart because there were things at the core of his culture that were not at the core of mine.
It makes sense in my mind, but it shouldn't be as all-inclusive. I think it does happen pretty frequently that people think outside of the culture they were raised in, meet someone from a different culture who thinks like them, and everything turns out wonderful, despite culture or race differences. It just makes a marriage or relationship for that matter, a good deal harder.
