I really wish the US cared so much about other nations having Nukes, like the fact that Israel does have nukes, not suspected of nukes. They aren't listed and are more of a nuclear threat in the middle east than Iran.
But why are we so bent on helping Israel that no matter what happens we will jump to their aid? We just want another way to attack Iran if they aren't a direct threat. But I really don't think that will be brought up in the media if Iran attacks Israel and then we go invade Iran.
I'm just so tired of this. Do we really think this is making up more secure? Attacking three middle east countries in eight years makes them hate us more not less. And the big question you have to ask is HOW we can attack Iran? We are low on troops as it is and the country is severely in debt, how can we supply a war or finance it in the state we are in? Is Iran worth the damage it will do to this country financially? Is it worth drafting our young men and women for a country that has not invaded us?
I don't think that there is any chance of US interference in Iran, nor has there been. Iran is a huge threat to peace, and even Europe appears to recognize this. However, we, the US, don't have enough resources to do anything about it.
The way President Bush is acting, I don't think that he is even aware that the midterm elections are coming up. After all, he is doing everything he can to alienate his conservative base, trying to act more liberal than the Democrats in most things. And Iran is one of those things.

Well, based on how they handled the North Korean affair I am not surprised by this down play action, but mark my word, Iran will use this as a stepping stone for other things in the future if someone does not clip the vine while it is still young.
Here is an old but relevant page of thought(s) concerning media reports to look at:

Meta-reactions to his statement, so to say. Some interesting conclusions, very few of which are correct, could be drawn from the content of these comments. These jumped out at me as representing the uninformed consensus of the world: 1. Iran is an Arab country. 2. A nuclear weapons program is illegal under international law. 3. In 1948, Israel took away all the land the U.N. had decided was for the Palestinian state, leading to large numbers of refugees and our present situation. The following is a reply to Iran's nuclear question from an Iranian friend now living in my town.

I do not know about the nuclear program. I do not think anything would happend to Iran's nuclear plan. Isreal would be Wiped out of the face of the earth if anything happened to Iran and I really do not think U. S would do harm Iran at all. |

One thing I have always thought about is this: Iraq has pushed back Iran a number of times (granted they had support from the US at the time). So, what makes Iran feel they are so 'big' as to take on the US? Or are they merely using the Israeli missile strike as an incentive for the US not to attack?
The question then is this... is the US so concerned about the safety of Israel that it would not strike against Iran? I personally doubt that.
