He wants to rub it in everyone's noses. I just hope that when the sanctions come to full fruition and he starts to get edgy that he protects the women and children, because they are always the last to be looked after in war.

The thing that bothers me is that I understand the crazy guy running NK and know that he is looking for his payday. I really dont understand what this guy is wanting from his development. Pakistan and India developed weapons to keep the other from invading. Who is Iran protecting themselves against? You can pretend that the US is coming there, but we really cannot do it by ourselves and without provication...so what is the benefit? You need it for energy? Ummm...you have OIL.
What scares me is that I think he wants one for respect. Which means if he doesn't get the immediate respect he thinks he deserves after he blows one up...what then? He always talks about a middle east free of zion...
Pakistan and India started the spread in that area, but if Iran gets theirs, I can only see a hastened attempt by all neighbors and not so neighborly to get theirs. Syria, Jordan and Egypt will need something to sit high in the region. NK has already started a quick buildup of the major players of the pacific rim. Basically, anyone that wants to get paid to stop (and lie and continue to do it) by the super powers needs to quickly start now. Once everyone has one, then there wont be any big pay days.
I am assuming that Israel already has one and just hasn't printed a picture of it on their money, yet. The only thing missing from that 50,000 rial is a picture of the word halocaust with a circle around it and a line through it.
The US cannot run over to Iran if they just decide to pull out of Iraq. The cultures are ENTIRELY different. While the general thought of Iraq was that they were unwashed masses craving democracy but just couldn't get past the evil dictator, Iran is not even close to that. In many ways, there is more in common between the US and Iran than Iran and Iraq.

""¦ Sir Roger Stevens to write, in The Land of the Great Sophy: "There can be no proper understanding of what underlies modern Iran unless we recognize the significance of this triumph of legend over history, or art over reality, this preference for embellishment as against unvarnished fact, for ancient folk beliefs as against new-fangled creeds."" |

Well, well, looks like someone wants to dance with the devil. One of two things will happen here:
1. They will hold them for a short while and then let them go after a short negotiation. ( This is how I think it will play out)
2. They will hold on to them further causing strife and a greater excuse for war to be waged by the enemy (less likely).

Certainly opens the door to all kinds of possibilities. I also believe there will be a short negotiation, lots of posturing and demands and counterdemands, etc.
Iranian president Ahmadinejad has cancelled his UN appearance - he says because the US pulled a fast one with the special visa:

But Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammed Ali Hosseini told Iranian state television later in the day that the trip had been scrapped because of "America's obstruction in issuing visas" to the Iranian delegation that was to travel to New York. Hosseini said that instead of Ahmadinejad, Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki will attend the Security Council meeting and "explain Iran's position regarding its nuclear activities." "Due to open failure by the United States to issue visas for members of the Iranian delegation accompanying President Ahmadinejad and the air crew, American authorities have effectively prevented President Ahmadinejad from attending the U.N. security council meeting," Hosseini said. Mohammad Mir Ali Mohammadi, press secretary for Iran's mission to the U.N., told The Associated Press that the United States did not deliver a visa to the U.S. Embassy in Bern, Switzerland, in time for Ahmadinejad to pick it up before flying to New York for the Saturday session. |

This is a weekly back and forth thing between Iran and the US. Hey, they just captured a few British marines and are saying that they will go to trial for espionage. Of course, they did this very thing a while back and ended up releasing the soldiers. Basically, the US cannot say that they wont go into Iran as that is the only card they are holding - fear of the consequences for Iran. If you take that threat away, it is basically the equivalent of sending a congratulatory card to Iran for their baby nuke.
Truly, in my opinion, the only group I fear might go into Iran is probably the one that is the most quiet and has maybe the most to lose from Iran getting a nuke and that is Israel. Israel has shown before that it does not need any support from the world before launching an attack and has used a approach of it being easier to ask for foregiveness than to ask for permission. Remember, Israel, by themselves, took out the nuclear plant in Iran last time. They were told not to do it, but did it anyway and just later asked for foregiveness which the rest of the world gave because Isreal did the job that no one else wanted to put their name to.
So the way I see it is that the loudmouths can launch barbs at each other weekly and it will amount to nothing, but the quiet ones are the ones you need to watch.

Good points Vincenzo, but one must wonder why Israel has not done so already (bombed their prime targets) considering how far Iran has reached already?
The UN has passed draft sanctions, we still do not know what they are exactly, but it will hurt Iran and cause what? Iran is not Iraq and if the world seeks to deal with them the same then I feel they will end up with another ream of terrorist attacks. On the other hand I do not recall being triumphant in any major wars. They have for the most part hit and run or just stood ground, but nothing more.
Bush would probably already have crossed the Iranian border were it not for his people's lack of support.
