Report: American Amir Mirzaei Hekmati, on trial in Iran for espionage, has been sentenced to death.
Iran's semi-official Fars news agency reported that a court convicted Hekmati of "working for an enemy country ... For membership in the CIA and also for his efforts to accuse Iran of involvement in terrorism."
Hekmati, a former U.S. Marine, was arrested in August while visiting his grandmother and other relatives, his family in Michigan said last month. Ref. CNN
No proof of nuclear bomb development by Iran - Patrushev:
"All this talk about Iranians being almost a week away from creating a nuclear bomb, we have been hearing it for many years now. The presence of a military aspect in Tehran's nuclear program has never been proved by anyone," Patrushev said in an interview with Interfax. Ref. Source 1
I still cannot see the US going to war with Iran unless directly attacked. I also think any confrontations in the Strait of Hormuz would be of the short lived variety. Where I could see the US and Iran getting into it, would be if Israel attacks Iran first or vice versa. I don't see Iran shutting down the Strait because of the universal contempt that would bring, but they would do it if attacked. In my opinion, Israel is going to have to get used to the idea of a nuclear neighbor at some point. The only issue is that with Iran loading up...the rest of the middle east will have to anti up because Iran isn't exactly the most favored nation in the bunch. Many of them don't actually want to have to do that because it takes money out of the dictators hands to support one of those programs.
