USA vs Iran - Page 11

This article points out a few Arab sources that show that Iran is building a nuclear arsenal. The mullahs are in a precarious position, and they know it. Their people are getting more and more restless, a new democratic govrnment that is friendly towards the US is next door, and their political movement is failing. What WILL they do?

I found it interesting that a French diplomat apparently tried to use the US as a threat against Iran, and Iran confidently replied that they can give as good as the US can.

Oh, BTW, an EMP strike might just be more devastating to the US as a whole than a few nuclear strikes, as it would affect very broad sections of our communications, banking, commerce and transporation infrastructures.

RAFSANJANI: U.S. MUST DO MORE

Former Iranian President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani -- now seeking another term as the Islamic republic's elected leader -- said Tuesday the United States has been hostile toward his country for more than 30 years.

QUOTE
"The United States before the [Islamic Revolution of 1979], and even after the revolution, has shown hostility toward Iran," Rafsanjani said.

I can't imagine any reason at all that the US should show hostility towards Iran. Oh, maybe it could be because the Iranians took a whole big group of hostages. Or maybe its horrific human rights record. I'm sure its absolute lack of basic liberty couldn't have anything to do with it.

Good grief! What is this man smoking? Iran has been implacably hostile towards the US, and he wonders why the US is hostile back!

Iran USA

Iranian candidates always have to have their "I hate US-Satan" speech before an election, it's pathetic.

I don't think the US has a legitimate reason to show aggression to Iran. Iranian politicians can use whatever rhetoric they want to score political points on a domestic front, but this has never been backed with any sort of action.

Words are just that, the US has also been scathing towards the Iranians many times before, even in its support of Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war. So it cuts boths ways.

Iran knows they will be crushed if they are aggressive towards the States or Israel, they are not stupid. Israel has shown they won't take a step backwards here. It would be nice if their oppressive government was toppled internally, but its really up to the people to make this happen.

I don't believe they are trying to manufacture nuclear weapons, the International Atomic Energy Agency doesn't believe they are doing anything wrong either. There is no tangible evidence to prove this, just like there was nothing proving Saddam had WMDs.

But even if they were, I think it is most hypocritical for the US, Israel and Britain to be kicking a stink. Powerful nations shouldn't whinge at others trying to catch up. If nuclear nations led by example and dismantled their nuclear arsenals then it is a different story.

It must be something of a shock to see someone that once held you at ransom now lead a country that could threaten yours.

Ex-U.S. hostages: Iran's new president one of their captors

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - A quarter-century after they were taken captive in Iran, five former American hostages say they got an unexpected reminder of their 444-day ordeal in the bearded face of Iran's new president-elect, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Former hostage William J. Daugherty, a retired CIA staff officer, says "it's impossible to forget a guy like that."

I think it was terrible this man got voted in. He clearly has an agenda and is using cheap anti-american rhetoric to mobilise support. He's a hard-liner that will hurt Iran at a sensitive time.
