Hypothesis Diathesis-stress

What a perfectly excellent. I have believed in this type of theory for nearly everything most of my life. The idea is that its not purely hereditary, that is something genetically wrong, or purely due to life experience, but a continuity of both, merging into the problem known as schizophrenia. Its a merge of the classic nature versus nurture, something that sounds entirely logical yet has lots of circumstantial proof as well as hard proof.

Diathesis-stress Hypothesis Health & Special Psychology

Name: J

Comments: Yes. I do believe in the Diathesis Stress Hypothesis as it concerns people with Schizophrenia because knowing my mother who grew up in foster care in 10 homes, being abused mentally and physically. She then became an alcoholic during her early adulthood and at this time she was diagnosed with schizophrenia. I always believed that her illness was because of the stress she experienced growing up. I was lucky enough to have my aunt and uncle take care of me from middle school on up to high school.

During Abnormal Psychology this week we watched A Beautiful Mind. We talked about the real Dr. John Nash who had two children one of which was living with his mother and the other one lived with him and his wife. His son that lived with him was diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia. We could say the reason for that was because he was exposed to the stress of his father's illness where as his other son who lived with his mother and was not exposed to his father's illness was not diagnosed with the illness.
