Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday confirmed that US diplomatic missions in Russia will be cut by 755 people, following a sanctions bill the US Congress passed last week.
The Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday demanded that the United States cut its diplomatic staff in Russia and said it would seize two US diplomatic properties in a sharp response to the new US sanctions bill.
Putin had hoped relations would improve with the US, but now says it does not appear that will happen soon, according to state media.
"We waited a long time for things to perhaps change for the better," state media quoted Putin as saying. "We had such hope that the situation would change, but judging by the situation that will not be soon."
On taking retaliatory measures, Putin said, "I thought it was time for us to show that we will not leave this without an answer." Ref. CNN.
Megan,
Yeah, this isn't a good thing. This is the kind of action that President Trump may think requires a reaction. Actions and reactions can quickly spiral out of control. Also, I don't think President Trump necessarily came in to office with the intent of changing people's minds. Rather, he came in with an open mind and Putin's actions are pushing him to think more like his predecessors.
Uhm, this is the biggest bunch of hogwash ever written. Blaming England for declaring war on Germany after Germany invaded a sovereign nation that England was allied with is pure fantasy. Germany was bombing civilian centers and her troops were racing across Poland. Germany had plans to invade France. Germany had plans for the USSR too. My God, and now he's trying to compare that with the situation today. This guy needs to get a grip on reality.
