I have a huge issue with the massive conspiracy theory proposed in the thread. I just don't buy into the idea that a few are getting together and mapping out the planet for ill gotten gains and enslaving the masses.
To suggest that nazism was a planned and coordinated effort of more countries than Germany itself is a nice bold statement with little to back it up. That would say we tabbed a little (almost non-existent) know man in Munich to lead a party that ended up in a significant loss of life, threw existing politicians from office and resulted in the formation of the atomic bomb? Thrilling but I am not drinking the tea.
Cold War was a "planned" joint effort?
In that case, I am sure the Belshevik Revolution was a worldwide planned effort as well and not just a rebellion against the Csar. Nope...the west orchestrated it.
The west created communism? If you mean that a group of people wanted to be anything but westernized and came up with communism, then yeah....I can see that. But if you mean that communism was created by the west as a foil for the control of the mindless masses, then again, I am not drinking.
If this were all true, then didn't we actually arm India and Pakistan with nuclear weapons. With the power to call a war at will, I am sure this massive oversight of power could grant or not grant weapons...right?
It must not be George Bush's fault for going to war as it had to be planned right? He had to know there wasnt any WMD's...right...as well as all the other key countries in the know.
I more tend to believe that events are a natural progression of decisions. Most of the decisions are pretty easy to read and understand why they were made. It is only rarely that the data and facts do not support the decisions made. The cold war was a natural off-shoot of the political differences between what was the USSR and the US. The US is by far the largest and most democratic of all the larger westernized countries. Much of Europe is further down the socialism chart than the US, so we would naturally be the biggest enemy politically to communism. We also had the bomb and they didn't, for a while. This easily made us a country not to be trusted in the Russian eyes.
Russia never promised to have a US based democracy. I believe they are working their way through what type of democracy they want to have. We in the US don't actually have a true democracy and we have no patent on democracy. If you look at England, France, Ireland, etc... You will find varying degrees of democracy...no one of them labled as the best. It has taken the US a long time to shape the democracy it has today. It didn't happen in a few decades. Why should we expect Russia to change like a light switch?

Not a believer in global take overs eh? It seems that the 'capture' of Russian spies was for a greater cause:

A ratio of 10:4, think it was a good deal? I guess it depends on who was in the exchange:

Russia has quite a bit of past to it that is not known. Many see Hitler a one of the worst in history, but Hitler did not kill millions of his own people! Check just these two Threads for a start:
