Demographics of the Philippines. The people of the Philippines are called Filipinos. Majority of them are of Malay ethnicity who migrated to the islands long before the Christian era. The most significant ethnic minority group is the Chinese, who have played an important role in commerce since the ninth century, when they first came to the islands to trade. As a result of intermarriage, many Filipinos have some Chinese and Spanish ancestry. Americans and Spaniards constitute the next largest alien minorities in the country. Enrile not rattled by coup report in Senate
Local Philippines News In English
MANILA, Philippines (PNA) — Saying he is not clinging to his position, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile said on Friday that he is not rattled by the reported coup as he even expressed readiness to give the Senate presidency to the alleged plotters "in a silver platter.”
Ok, let me try to answer the question as to why there were so many coup attempts in the past.
Basically, the first one was EDSA People power where people went to EDSA (Major avenue) to show that they were sick and tired of then President Marcos. Thereafter, when the next president sat, several coups happened because a group of military officials, known as RAM were not happy with the way Mrs Aquino ran the government. But nevertheless, all were unsuccessful. Then when President ERAP's corruption scandal leaked, people went out on the streets again asking for his resignation.
So why did it happen a lot? I guess because people didn't vote wisely and when the politicians they voted suddenly showed their true colors, they do everything to make sure they get replaced.
