Why Journalist need chemistry lessons

Journalist and others opposed to Bush attacking Iraq have often accused him of not being able to find wmd, such as chemical and biological weapons.

To me this proves one thing, they don't know about the laws of chemistry to make realistic comments about chemical biological nor nuclear weapons.

The first law of matter is this:

"Matter is neither created nor destroyed though it can be transformed from one form to another"

What does that have to do with Saddam?  Simple, we know he had chemical weapons we know he used them.  There is nothing disputing that evidence, the arugement is about what has been done with them.  To say he eliminated them is not enough, you don't just eliminate chemical weapons and poof they are gone, you have to go through processes to "transform" the matter in them from one form to another.  If he just dumped them out into the dessert , they would have decompossed but being decompossed does not mean that traces of them would not exist.  In simpler terms, you burn a tree to ashes residue still remains, in the form of ashes, you burn paper, the same thing happens, and the remaining chemical properties of the ash could help a trained chemist determine if the ashes were the remains of a tree or a piece of paper.

The same goes for biological weapons, if they cannot be found it is because they are hid, not because Saddam got rid of them, for if he disposed of them, the remains would have been found and they have not.  Journalist need to understand that their job is to report the news, it is not their job to interpet the news especially when they clearly don't know what they are talking about.  Their degrees are in journalism not chemisty.

Further, something else I would like to point out, the United States claimed that Saddam was working on a nuclear weapons program.  The UN denies that.  The UN denied that North Korea had a program too.  Let me put it to those who don't understand it very simple, the UN is a collection of countires, some with Nuclear Weapons and most without.  The countries that do have programs are not going to give their info to the UN, nor to any other country because that's their defense program and they won't do it.  Under that light I am sceptical of the UN speaking as if it knows more than the US intelligence on the matter of nuclear programs, because they don't have the know how to understand how a weapons program of that type would exist, we do, and no way will we tell them.

lessons chemistry Journalist Why

LOL Brian said it! This thread is for me! LOL :smile.gif

I don't see the need for a journalist to know about Chemistry when their work is to inform, not to do experiments :smile.gif

We know Saddam has the weapons of mass destruction now we don't know where they are. As journalist since the United States of America CANNOT provide an answer on where those weapons are, then certain hypotesis must be analyze and that's what journalists are doing when they say that Saddam may be destroy them or hide it somewhere.

I think you're a bit confused or don't know much about Media and Journalism. I have worked in media for more than 10 years and part of the job as a journalist is not only report facts but also interpret information, yes, that's one of the jobs of the journalist too (depending of their specialization).

What I don't understand this whole thing of Weapons of Mass Destruction is this simple question that NOBODY was able to answer me, maybe you can reply if you have an answer. But please be specific in the answer:

Why the United States of America demanded of Iraq or other countries to disarm their weapons of mass destruction when themselves (the USA) has also weapons of mass destruction? who decide who will use it for good or for evil? the USA itself? :smile.gif
