Hey Stranger, thanks for the explanation about the Republican Guard. Now let's talkabout numbers, how many American soldiers there are fighting in Iraq right now and how many Iraqi soldiers?

First of all, there is no such thing as an illegal war. War has no legal status.

Second, you are grossly misinformed about US colonialism. This country has waged war in many countries throughout its history and has colonialized none of them. As Colin Powell so aptly put it,

"The only ground we took was the ground where we buried our dead".

LDS,
You're quite welcome.
Hmmm, we have a little over 200,000 and expecting another 60,000 shortly.
The Iraqis is hard to say. We're killing them too fast to keep track of. I believe they started out with  about the same amount, if you count the conscripts. I'll have to check on that.

Here is the other thing we need to consider. lets say the US/UK get behind the Republican Guard, they are now in Baghdad... urban warfare begins. What now? there are several options...

- More civilians die
- Suicide bombers go on a rampage
- Saddam does not want to be caught so he detonates a weapon of mass destruction?
- They can't find Saddam so he becomes another Bin Laden

[quote]This country has waged war in many countries throughout its history and has colonialized none of them[/quote] That can be debated I believe, lets think of how the US was formed in the first place, then there is Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Samoa, and others they may not refer to as 'territories' but the US is really in control of it. BUT that is another thread. Maybe I will open a thread about it smile.gif[/offtopic]

JB,
All possible, all not pleasant to think about, but none an excuse to avoid doing what needs to be done.

You can wring your hands over possible negative consequences until doomsday, but only action will produce results.

Even if it is off topic, may I remind you that Hawaii is a state, not some colony.

If we're in control of Puerto Rico, you could have fooled me.

That depends on what side of the fence you stand on. As for Saddam, I seriously believe that these videos they are showing are prerecorded. I doubt he would be smiling so much. If you look at his generals, they never smile, they often look like they are fed up of what is going on. I wonder if there are any BBC or US correspondants in those Iraqi briefings to ask questions?

From Iraqi News:

IRAQI television has shown footage of a smiling President Saddam Hussein chairing a meeting which paid tribute to the "heroic resistance" of Iraqi fighters against coalition forces.

How many Hawaiians look like the typical US citizen, Puerto Ricans, etc? Why is texas still the lone state? {Anyways, calm down, calm down, I know you are ready to reply wink.gif , don't reply to these, just wait til a thread is open.) But anyway, like I said, that is for another thread.[/offtopic]

They are prerecorded, and if you will notice, there is no audio in them. They read his messages now. Funny you don't hear his voice any more. Also notice how they have quit referring to him by name for the most part and emphasize the state, the country the "leadership" and suddenly are becoming devout Muslims, calling for holy jihad.

The journalests don't ask questions. They listen to what the Information Minister tells them, go where he takes them, or they wind up in jail.

The generals don't have much to smile about these days, I would imagine.

Too bad I don't have cable, anyone want to buy it for me?

From ABC News...

As the clock strikes 9:33 p.m. Eastern Time this evening, the war will officially be two weeks old.  What a long two weeks it's been.

"This has been a very good day for the Third Infantry Division" is the way
Ted Koppel reports on the mission to get through the Karbala Gap, seize a
key bridge across the Euphrates River, and move inexorably toward Baghdad.
Ted and the Third Infantry Division are just 20 miles from Baghdad.  Last
night you got a taste of Operation Peach as the division calls it.
Tonight, you'll be an eyewitness to what could be among the most pivotal
battles of the war.  It's what the embedded journalists had in mind when
they volunteered for the assignment.

[offtopic]What message? About which branch of the military you served? If so, yes, and I replied to it.[/offtopic]

Not to mention that the entire Medina Division was virtually destroyed by the First Marines.

[offtopic]Hmmm, how did you reply? I see nothing here, online. Obviously I am having trouble figuring out the lines of communication on this site[/offtopic]
