Okay lets think about this, we are not looking at who is wrong or who is right, but if you know that by your leaving you will save many innocent lives would you do it?

From USA Today:

Saddam says he won't go into exile
--------------------------------------------------
Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein says he would rather die than leave his
country, dismissing recent arguments by U.S. and Arab leaders that he
could go into exile to avoid war.

"Okay lets think about this, we are not looking at who is wrong or who is right, but if you know that by your leaving you will save many innocent lives would you do it? "

Doesn't this show his lack of regard for life and the fact that he is not to be trusted? He has proven this in the past after killing his own people.

I don't know if proves anything really, but this is what Bush recently said,

From ABC News:

In his address to the American Enterprise Institute tonight, the President
offered new justification for the war against Saddam Hussein, saying an
end to his regime would pave the way for peace between Israelis and
Palestinians, and encourage democracy in the Arab world.

This thread has gone through a lot of opinions about justification of war, now that we know that war is more or less inevitable let's look at what could be the possible outcome.

From Desere News:

SPEED IS IMPERATIVE IF U.S. GOES TO WAR, MILITARY EXPERTS SAY
A U.S. attack on Iraq would be a swift, powerful combination of airstrikes and
ground assaults aimed at overwhelming Saddam Hussein's defenses and keeping him
from mustering catastrophic retaliation, defense officials and outside experts
say.

EDITORIAL: SADDAM'S CHALLENGE IS SILLY
In an interview with Dan Rather, Saddam Hussein recently challenged President
Bush to a debate. Rather asked Saddam twice, to make sure he was serious.

If this be true, wouldn't it be very ironic? Maybe Saddam is angry because the Jews brought him into this miserable world?

Jewish Family Claims it Saved Saddam Hussein From Abortion

Jerusalem, Israel -- An Iraqi Jewish family took in Saddam Hussein's
mother in 1937 and talked her out of an abortion, according to Israel's
leading expert on Iraq and the large traditional Jewish community that
once prospered there.

"The story is true," says expert Amatzia Baram. "I've pretty much
confirmed all of the details, but the family doesn't like to talk about
it. There was this fear that people would blame the Jews for Saddam.

The family, originally from Tikrit, Hussein's birthplace, lives in Or
Yehuda, home to a large community of Iraqi exiles in Israel, says Baram.
The family befriended Hussein's mother while she was pregnant with the
future dictator. One of only two Jewish families in Tikrit at the time,
they took in the woman and persuaded her not to abort, reports South
Florida's Sun-Sentinel.

"After it became public, the family got this angry response from some
people saying they should have done something," said Baram. "But it was
ridiculous. We weren't talking about killing a dictator but a fetus."

About a decade after the birth of Hussein, Jews across Iraq began a secret
exodus of Iraq's increasingly besieged Jewish community to the new state
of Israel.

So are we saying that the Republicans wanted Saddam out since 97 and that it is only because they are in power now they are getting a chance to do it?

From ABC News:

The Project for the New American Century.  Never heard of it?  Well, don't
feel bad.  Few have.  But have you heard of Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld
or Paul Wolfowitz?  Back in 1997, those three out-of-office politicians
and several other like-minded, mostly conservatives, were frustrated with
American foreign policy.  So they formed this new organization and a year
later wrote a letter to then-President Bill Clinton calling for a
"comprehensive political and military strategy for bringing down Saddam
and his regime."

Its very unusual for a nation to announce its plan of attack. What do you suspect the US is going to do different? In the Gulf War the US bombed and bombed, much like they did with Afghanistan... so why do they say it will be different this time? They going to use a nuke?

WINDS OF WAR
The nation's top military officer said Tuesday that the Pentagon's war plan for
Iraq entailed shocking the Iraqi leadership into submission quickly with an
attack "much, much, much different" from the 43-day Persian Gulf War in 1991.

Well, I have to say that Bush Sr. went only as far as his stated intentions, which was to get Iraq back on their own turf.

Personally, I thought it was bad strategy to leave the Iraqui Northern Divisions intact, but I  was not in charge.

If Bush goes after Irag this time (and it looks highly likely), yes, he will finish the job.

So far he has demonstrated a bulldog tenacity, as the unravelling of Al Quaeda has shown.

I do hope the USA doesn't lose their focus on Afganistan, as they have proven to be good allies, and with support could turn into a thriving nation.

I am also pleasantly surprised at how Pakistan has jumped on board.

But, back to the subject. It looks like old Saddam is history. The American military is itching to try out their new technology on him, and his internal enemies sense that they can now throw off the yoke. He has killed too many of his own people, and if we "bust his butt" they will hang him themselves.
