Actually, it may be a good one.

Already we're getting reports of Iraqui army troops trying to surrender before we've even started.

They want him gone worse than we do.

LDS,
Don't be sad. This is a good day for them!
The American GIs are going in glad they don't have to kill them!

They will treat them like brothers. Believe me, we know who the enemy is, and who he is not.

No soldier I know, including me, really wants to blow somebody's head off.

We know that 90% of those boys are there under threat of death.

The bas-  , I didn't sy that..., we've got our sights set on are the Republican Guard, those jerks who enforced Saddam's will and kept him in power through murder and torture.

Now, those boys, I promise you. are on the fast track to Allah, Paradise and the 70 Virgins.

The rest of them are just ordinary guys like us. This is a good day for them.

Remarks by President George Bush

March 19, 2003

THE PRESIDENT: My fellow citizens, at this hour, American and coalition forces are in the early stages of military
operations to disarm Iraq, to free its people and to defend the world from grave danger.

On my orders, coalition forces have begun striking selected targets of military
importance to undermine Saddam Hussein's ability to wage war. These are
opening stages of what will be a broad and concerted campaign. More than 35
countries are giving crucial support -- from the use of naval and air bases, to help
with intelligence and logistics, to the deployment of combat units. Every nation in
this coalition has chosen to bear the duty and share the honor of serving in our
common defense.

To all the men and women of the United States Armed Forces now in the Middle
East, the peace of a troubled world and the hopes of an oppressed people now
depend on you. That trust is well placed.

The enemies you confront will come to know your skill and bravery. The people you liberate will witness the honorable and decent spirit of the American military. In this conflict, America faces an enemy who has no regard for conventions of war or rules of morality. Saddam Hussein has placed Iraqi troops and equipment in civilian areas, attempting to use innocent men, women and children as shields for his own military -- a final atrocity against his people.

I want Americans and all the world to know that coalition forces will make every effort to spare innocent civilians from harm. A campaign on the harsh terrain of a nation as large as California could be longer and more difficult than some predict. And helping Iraqis achieve a united, stable and free country will require our sustained commitment.

We come to Iraq with respect for its citizens, for their great civilization and for the religious faiths they practice. We have no ambition in Iraq, except to remove a threat and restore control of that country to its own people.

I know that the families of our military are praying that all those who serve will return safely and soon. Millions of Americans are praying with you for the safety of your loved ones and for the protection of the innocent. For your sacrifice, you have the gratitude and respect of the American people. And you can know that our forces will be coming home as soon as their work is done.

Our nation enters this conflict reluctantly -- yet, our purpose is sure. The people of the United States and our friends and allies will not live at the mercy of an outlaw regime that threatens the peace with weapons of mass murder. We will meet that threat now, with our Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard and Marines, so that we do not have to meet it later with armies of fire fighters and police and doctors on the streets of our cities.

Now that conflict has come, the only way to limit its duration is to apply decisive force. And I assure you, this will not be a campaign of half measures, and we will accept no outcome but victory.

My fellow citizens, the dangers to our country and the world will be overcome. We will pass through this time of peril and carry on the work of peace. We will defend our freedom. We will bring freedom to others and we will prevail.

May God bless our country and all who defend her.

Iraq - Disarm - Show Your Arms - War?

JB,
what I heard early this am, was that they had spotted a "hot target", had a lock on high level personnel, and put a Patriot through the bedroom window.

"Good Morning, Viet NAM"!!!

"Time to rise and shine"!

They hit somebody high up, probably several somebodies, judging by the screaming of their foreign minister at his a.m. press conference.

I do not support war But,

Do I believe the Iraqi government is a threat for the world not only the US and the Britains?

Yes

Do I think they have any intention of disarming now that they are being attack?

No.
They only tinker with it now there's a very pissed off United States/Britain waiting to blow them away.

Do I think they would use mass weapons/chemical/biological ?

No, not directly. However I think they would provide terrorist groups with the capacity to do more than fly a few planes into big buildings.

Do I trust Saddam Hussein with lives of my family and friends?

No I bloody don't.

I think this is so clear: if they don't kill him or something, he'll sponsor terrorism, and it we'll be seeing much more devastation.

I truely believe the US/UK intelligence (that the governments can't release) is so compelling, both Bush and Blair are willing to put their careers on the line for it. Hell No When do you see a politition doing that? They're attacking Iraq without the UN, it's political suicide for Bush and Blair. They wouldn't do that to shave $5 a barrel off oil, or finish off a vendetta for Dad. This is serious stuff. There's obviously some incredibly clever Americans and British in the darkened rooms of Whitehall and the Pentagon saying: we need to do this. Oh yeah, the French saying, "ne haw, ne haw, we think you should wait until you get nuked."

This is so clearly much much bigger than our polititions, otherwise they wouldn't be planning their own demise right now. Tony Blair just wouldnt be spending £nn billion on a war no one wants, when he's already failing at fixing the internal runnings of the country. He'd have that money going into securiing his next office in power, not pissing off the nation.

In summary: I think the US/UK know more than we do, everything they say is purely speculative, but they know the facts. Britain doesn't have a recent history of going to war unnecessarily. They'll fight for their interests, like the Falklands, and quite right too. Once more, the Americans, British are going to be left to fix the world.

Do you ever stop to wonder how many terrorist plots US/UK governements has stopped? I think if they didnt smash the Taliban, and have a good stab at al queada, they wouldn't be in such naive state of mind today.

US/UK leaders had the balls to go against international pressure there too, and I think Afghanistan is a more stable region for it, but more important , they've not had any major terrorist attacks on the scale of 9/11 to date. *touch wood*

I was just watching a documentary on Saddam by the BBC. In it they made the following observations that are well worth discussing:

- Saddam came to 'secure' power after declaring the opposition in the government be shot dead - he also hanged family members and others that opposed him. The US did not budge.

- After his new role as dictator and during the Iraq vs Iran war, the US backed Saddam, even when he used chemical warefare as one of his tatics

- Saddam used chemical warefare on his own people, the world did not budge

- Saddam enters Kuwaite and then eveyone gets worried - and so war.

- 9/11 happens and everyone gets worried, so war again

It seems that the World Powers have trouble controlling those that they support in the beginning... the Saddams, the Hitlers, the Bin Ladens...

Sorry to be 'Churchy' but right did the Lord say... those who wield a sword shall die by the sword. War is never a good thing. There is nothing good about war.

To this day I am still amazed that Saddam has been able to avoid assassination. I guess the SAS and Seals are not good enough?
