I read in my little local newspaper this week that when you store flour in plastic containers do not sit it on the concrete. Raise it up, like on rollers. Store it in food grade plastic too, and don't store it for longer than 7 years.
I learned from the County Extension Office that if you get weevils in your flour, say in a 5 or 10 lb. bag, put it in the freezer for about a week. That will kill the weevils and their eggs. Then you can go ahead and use the flour. Sift the weevils out, it won't hurt the flour or you at all. I was a little squeamish at first, then I realized that I was baking the flour. It is no worse than eating shrimp or prawns! (love them) I just mixed in some whole wheat, and whole grains that I ground and made multi-grained bread!
Stockpile Food
The idea took hold last week when Costco and Sam's Club announced that they would limit customers to four wholesale-size 20-pound bags of imported jasmine, basmati and long-grain white rices per trip. That has caused some concern, but think about the last time you bought 20 pounds of rice in one shopping trip, let alone 80, 100 or even 120 pounds.

It is always good to have a small stock pile of food to last a few months if you can. A year if you slowly build it up over time. Whether it is canned good or frozen goods it does not matter. Making sure you rotate the stored goods is good. Having airtight sealable containers is good to have too. I have a two deep freezes and a large walk in pantry. I usually have the freezers pretty full of meats while the pantry and half my cupboards are filled with dry and canned goods. We usually buy at costco to get a lot for little.
I always have some extra on hand. I am sure I could last a month if required.
I strongly suggest never store in plastic on a porous floor like concrete. Keep in mind plastic is purpose also. So you will get mold and such over a long time periods. If it is flour put paper bag in the tub then pour in the flour it will help control the moisture. I also agree get it off the floor a simple piece of wood will suffice. As far as weevils be glad the flour is high quality enough for them to live n as much flour is too processed for them to live in. Yup just sift them our or count them as bonus proteins.
I try to store all I can in glass as it it a tight seal and keep moisture out which is your real enemy.
