MANILA, Philippines - Beauty queen-turned-actress Melanie Marquez has a brand-new baby. The mother of six children, the former international model has found another "child" to take care of. "It's really just like being a mother," Melanie told Inquirer Entertainment of her new job as chairperson of her church's jubilee committee. Melanie converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when she married current husband Adam Lawyer. The church will mark its 50th anniversary in the Philippines in 2011. This is not the first time Melanie has offered her services to the church. She has worked in the Relief Society, an organization of Mormon women, for six years now. Medical missions Through the group, the church has embarked on medical missions, notably the blood-letting campaign. "We don't drink, we don't smoke; so we have healthier blood to donate," she noted. The group also lends a hand to Gawad Kalinga and takes on projects involving genealogy, or tracing family roots. Hands-on In the recent kick-off ceremonies for the coming Mormon jubilee year, Melanie was hands-on. She brought pots of porridge out of the pantry and served rice cakes. At one point, she lifted a five-gallon water jug. During the program, Melanie gave an emotional speech, thanking both members and non-members of the church for their support. After the short program, she took up a broomstick and dustpan to join a clean-up group in a Makati neighborhood. https://showbizandstyle.inquirer.net/entert...-brand-new-baby |

This is actually your sister in law right? I love when we have Filipino missionaries serving in our ward! They all blush when we ask them if they know who she is! |
Name: Mrdick
Comments: I was in church one Sunday when this beautiful girl walked in, and I knew her from someplace? I was in the Navy on the Uss Midway from 1977 to 1980 when Mealanie was a beauty Queen and we had a poster of her in my shop on the wall and I would see her every night when I went to work,Needless to say she is the last person I expected to meet here at our small branch on the island of Lanai here in Hawaii? We had a pot luck after church that day so I was able to talk story a little bit she is a wonderful person and I am glad she has found her way
