In the past we have given many of our services for free. We did as part of promotional schemes, a way of befriending our clients, and in some cases just to say thanks. We have found that giving something free may not always be wise.
Case in point. Sometimes we have given free web sites to models in exchange for the use of their photo. They agree by signing an agreement, and give us exclusive rights. Basically once their site is up we can now use their photo for our web sites, in a goodly manner of course. Time passes and then think for some reason the model thinks their photo is worth more than our design? Or they think that their exchange is not equal to our design? In doing investigation, most starting models actually would love the exposure. Yet there are those who are spoiled by getting something for free. They want free updates, they want their picture down, just because they do not feel like being on the net, etc. All of which we do not have to agree too because we have a signed agreement, but we do it anyway just because we would not want that attitude representing our sites. So now we do not do things for free.
Clients that pay us top dollar actually treat us fairly and are well pleased than those we give free services to. If we need a picture or photo of a model we pay for it or use someone inhouse. This way we do not have to hear any sad stories or speeches.
Have you had experiences with this?

the greatest sin to me is ingratitude of people.for instant you go out of your way to help someone especially in trinidad they think your out to kidnap them.i remember sending a girl flowers she told me why i didnot give her the money instead, you would think that the flowers would have done the trick.months after she says to me you dont send flowers anymore.
Actually I have found from past experiences that when you give someone something for free, they often do not think of the value of it simply because they had to put no effort. Fortunately we are not 'cold' yet from these experiences since charitable groups seem to be the most grateful, but this may be due to thier mode of survival so they have become accustomed to being grateful?

I think sometimes it comes from the thought "you get what you pay for," so since it was free they don't assign a very high value to it. Of course this is wrong, but that is how a lot of people operate.
Also, in the case of your models, when they agreed to give you their picture, they were looking for how it would benefit them. Once they are successful it becomes how you are benefiting from their picture and they are getting nothing in return because they no longer need the exposure your web site provides them.

Tenaheff, you got it right on the nail. They do not think about the cost of the web site's production. It is silly really to value their picture higher than the site that makes them look good. Its sort of the same for a person to highlight the paint on a car without thinking about the engine, gas, interior, etc.
