DarrylSmith Introduction

Hello everyone, I am new on this site and just wanted to introduce myself to all. I am Darryl, a 52 year old DWM from the United States. I live in Iowa.
I am a college student majoring in Computer Science Information Technology with a minor in Business Leadership. Presently I am maintaining a 2.967 grade point average on a 4 point scale. I have an AAS and an AA and am now working on a BA. I hope to obtain at least a Masters degree although I am not sure whether I want to master with an MBA or a master in Computer Science. I have approximately a year to decide.
I am in good health and things are working out fairly well for me.
I would be glad to hear from anyone since I like meeting new people and believe that you can't possibly have too many friends.

Welcome to the Community. How come your reason for joining is Trinidad & Tobago? What is a "DWM"?

Given your background you should be able to give very good input in the Computer, Business and Pagan related Boards have you checked those out?

Welcome Darryl, it's neat place here, ton of different sections as I'm sure you can see.

I like to think I know at least a moderate amount about computers and usually can do pretty well posting in computer sections on other forums but a lot of the stuff here almost DOES require someone with a degree - lot of it is kinda daunting to me. So I gravitate toward the "lighter" sections typically, but it is neat how it's pretty much open for anyone to post just about anywhere here, I'm sure you'll find topics in quite a few sections to interest you. It isn't a big adjustment - just like everywhere, it's just getting into the routine of how things are done in general, with some peripheral ins-and-outs that I sometimes space out of my mind how to do.

I never took you before as someone that exaggerates. There are many 'light' areas of Discussion in the Community even some that borders on whimsical Topics. If something is too 'deep' or too 'high' just start a new Thread with what you can handle if the Topic doesn't already exist.

Oh pshaw I exaggerate all the time. But I didn't mean it in a bad way (and I also didn't make it clear that I felt like compared to what I know about some subjects, some of the things people talk about here seem like things that require degrees).

What I was trying to say was that it isn't just "another forum" - there are some really analytical and thoughtful and highly qualified posters, in a number of different fields, and the topics and posts are not the usual run-of-the-mill threads and replies and opinions that you (me anyway) come to expect out of the internet in general, after being on it a few years - the rules are firmly enforced but don't interfere with people carrying on legitimate discussions, etc. It is a pretty professional, serious (but in a good way) medium for real discussion.

Did I portray it a little more accurately and usefully? I think I did. =)

I would say that clearly does it, but I still don't think you need a degree or equivalent to participate in most of the Discussions here, I don't have one for example and I run the place. Additionally, for me a degree really does not say much, I have seen many both here and in life stating their degrees and I often wonder how they came to earn it because of their poor common sense and communication skills.

I think the biggest skill needed here is to ensure net talk is eliminated and emotional rants eliminated. Such colorful writers as yourself do very well here, others do not. I think a lot of people have become so used to the Myspace / Facebook one liner settings that they have forgotten how to 'talk' in a Discussion format with other people.

Now, only problem is we need to read more from you and our new Member Darryl, so far both of you share similarities in being on the quiet side .
