In conversation I usually ask my fellow Trinis this and the answers varry, what does being a True Trini mean for you? I will give my answer for what I feel is a True Trini after some replies.
For me there are two kinds of definitions:
1. The True Trini is the typical Trini or in other words the one that actually represents the MAJORITY of people here and not just a select few.
Then there is...
2. The one that the media likes to portray and people fall for, the one that is associated with enjoying what the country has to offer. In other words you're a True Trini if you love fetes, beaches liming, relaxing, drinking 'x' and so forth. I think a lot of people forgot the origins of this "True Trini" title and it was all part of marketing for business. In a gullible culture they fall for such and adopt it as though it were the words of a founding father.
As for me, I have my own definition of how a Trinidadian can be true to himself and true to his country and they are in no way synonymous with #1 and #2 above. I'm interested in seeing what is your take on this.
