Is there really hope for Trinidad and Tobago? These people are coming to this country to HELP those who are in need. It is so sad to see they experience things like this:
Name: Alicia
Comments: Yes it is very sad and scary place... Think I would feel safer visiting Iraq than Trinidad. Explain to me why foreigners still going there to visit or live and those who living there has not left as yet... Unless where they are originally from even worse! if there could possibly anywhere worse than Trinidad. What keeps foreigners there?
Name: Pueppi
Comments: Excuse me guys! I am a German national, living in Trinidad, and I happened to hear about this story too! first of all: the guy is not even German! He has German roots, thats all. Hes American... Just by the way.
I know, it doesn't make thinks better but:
I really think it is way too much to say to feel even safer in Iraq! How stupid can you be to say something like that? I live here since three years, and nothing ever happened to me. You just have to stay away from a certain crowd, don't piss off the wrong kind of people and have to adjust to the mentality here.
But you could do all this things and still be killed in Iraq, because its random there!
Crime is everywhere. The guy was not killed, he was robbed. If you are being robbed, just let it go. Give up your stuff, and nobody would hit you! but this particular guy acts like a lunatic, so what else should have happened to him?
Before making such stupid comments, come here and see for yourself! Sure, its not paradise, but to put it worse than Iraq? Please....
Where did you hear he is not German? He is from Heidelberg and he IS a German national, not like it makes a difference really.

Comments: (TO EVERYONE) I am Tony Pike [Not verified], the Missionary supporter who was Beaten, Robbed & Stripped.
To 'Joe Public'& to all, No- I am NOT American! Just because my last name sounds English means nothing. Also, in the future please refrain from the unkind (& seemingly moronic) statements such as when you described how I supposedly acted like a 'lunatic' when I was viciously attacked. Were YOU there? (NO!) Any newspaper article cannot adequately portray reality - it has to leave out much information to keep their column short.
Look Friends, I was in fear for my LIFE when I was viciously Attacked! I used to teach Martial Arts and I maintain a body-builder's physical shape - and so 'I' Attacked my attackers but thinking they were going to kill me(!), not necessarily to regain my Laptop and some of my cash.
I came to T&T because it needs hope more than anything. I did my best in the 2 years I lived there, but I only left not because the going got rough, but (figuratively speaking) all the Rules and Referees retired. I still miss and fervently PRAY for the rest of the good, God-fearing people in Trinidad, Venezuela, Jamaica, etc., who must somehow tolerate what it's previously peaceful Country has turned into. I wish you would do the same.
To all: Thank you for all of your comments and concerns. I appreciate them. But please be concerned the most about the unfortunate daily victims of Trinidad's out-of-control 'Free-for-all'.
I am living back in Europe now (Switzerland) recovering, & thinking on what I might do next to instill hope to the ravaged World.
Thank you kindly / mit [.] Tony
Tony is an American who moved to T&T two years ago. We have been friends for many years. I did a Google search and found him. I know his writing/posting style and this is Tony from USA. Best wishes to him in Switzerland.
Countrylife, is Tony in Trinidad despite all this? I imagine that by now he decided to migrate to his homeland? I remember reading about his experience and I thought it was very scary.
