Thank you Jennie!
For those of you out there who still think milk is a good thing and a good source of calcium, PLEASE visit notmilk.com. The truth is that the human race is lactose intolerant, but like almost anything, we can build up immunities to allow us to consume almost anything, like sugar (A low grade poison, in the same family as rat Poison), never the less the constant Consumption of these foreign substances have lead to numerous health issues, including Osteoporosis! We have been told that to fight Osteoporosis we need calcium, ok fine, then we are told that to get calcium we need to drink milk, wait, problem, the calcium contained in cows milk is NOT absorbable by the human body! Why then would they tell us this? Answer: To sell a product. Just look at the statistics for Osteoporosis. America, the largest milk drinkers in the world also have one of the highest instances for Osteoporosis as opposed to say Asia, where virtually no one drinks milk, there is a very low occurence of Osteoporosis.
So if we don't get calcium from milk what do we get?
Thank goodness I am not lactose intolerant! But my childhood friend is. Unfortunately, she only discovered that she was lactose intolerant when she was 15 years old! Her parents sought the opinion of many doctors here in Trinidad and they could not diagnose the problem. Her mother remembered that she had a friend in the United States who was an excellent doctor, so she carried her daughter there. The American doctor diagnosed the problem immediately and advised my friend to stay away from all dairy products. Unfortunately, my friend loves all dairy products and inquired if there was something else that she could do to prevent the diarrhoea. The American doctor prescribed a tablet (can't remember the name of it) that enables my friend to consume dairy products but in small amounts. If she tries to eat too much dairy products even after taking the tablet, she develops a nasty gripe that remains with her, for hours and hours. I think it would be prudent to just steer clear of all dairy related products. After all, no one likes to feel sick all the time!
LDS_forever Eggs come from chickens so I can see why you like eggs. I also like eggs.
I am not one who is lactose intolerant I just do not like to drink milk. I will drink water or something else and let others enjoy their milk. I do like to eat Cheese and butter. Even some Yogurt at times. I will not eat cottage cheese because that is just chopped up spoiled milk.
I have enjoyed drinking both cows and goats milk as I was growing up and I even still like to eat Ice cream. I believe if you like milk and milk products then you should try getting the milk fresh. I think it can be much healthier for you.
Who's been a fun living dairy guzzling person who's realised they've had to stop their intake? How hard has it been for you and any tips for someone who's just recently converted? I have been drinking soy instead of dairy milk for some time but its things like chocate & cheese I'm finding hard.
Me too. I've been doing a Lactose and Gluten free diet for about a month now. Giving up milk and bread wasn't too bad (I use Almond milk, myself), but the chocolate and cheese has been difficult. I've begun allowing myself small things, here and there. I'm thinking I can handle having a candy bar once every three days or so. And if I want to eat cheese, I just have to be preapared to be out of commission for the next day. It's usually not worth it to splurge and eat a pizza, or ice cream, but sometimes...can't resist. I would recommend allowing yourself small amounts, but setting a "Later" date to eat more. As in, eat half of a chocolate bar, then save the other half for tomorrow, or the next day even. Also, they do make milk free chocolate. It's not the same, but it's not bad at all. Anyways, I hope I helped. I know it's not easy, but if I can do it, so can you. Good luck, dude!
I've actually give up on soy, because I read somewhere it wasn't really good for you. Well the soy milk we get here isn't that crash hot unless you pay through the nose for it. So its been fun! Lactose free cheese is nice, but expensive. I've learnt to make most things I love with dairy alternatives and even my son like them!
